Bet there’s probably some gummit regulation forbidding Wal-Mart from asking a customer for such cards prior to ringing up anything, so that if something isn’t eligible it is flagged (and can be set aside for a cash sale if necessary).

See I don't know if that is the case. I only had a few items and the store was busy. All I wanted was to get out of there. This line appeared to be shortest. Ha... So my first clue there was a problem, was this gal got beet red in the face. And started digging through her sacks of groceries saying everything I have in these sacks came from the 'food' department.

It took me at least 5 minutes to figure out what the problem was... as I was monitoring other lines to make a fast retreat, and it was just plain embarrassing for me to observe this whole thing.
