I warned FReepers at the time of the formation of DHS and the PATRIOT Act that they were but excuses to consolidate powers to be turned over to a leftist president at the end of the Bush Administration.

Few heeded those warnings. Constitutionally enumerated powers should have so remained. There were better ways to fight terrorism, especially charging the people with rooting them out and then deporting them.

You got that right, but that would be too easy and not have enough "bureaucracy" attached.

Simple solutions are anathema to big government.

I said the same about ‘no child left behind’ and the ‘faith based initiatives,’ in time they will all be co-opted and used to destroy the fabric of the very America they were designed to enrich.

All I could think about at the time was “what would happen with that kind of power in the clintonista hands”

now we know.

...I warned FReepers at the time of the formation of DHS and the PATRIOT Act...

Exactly, there were A LOT of us railing against the DHS and the Patriot Act who saw just this type of eventuality. The wrong people getting their hands on the unlimited investigative and prosecution powers... Basically a nationalized security force and the power to pretty much do as they please.

Where are all the supporters now, they seem to have scurried away into the darkness to let someone else clean up their mess... how typical!

no one listened much because we knew we were in favor with the king.

Now that an evil king is in power, those new powers to spy and accuse are being used against his political enemies, and it is us.

Hillary had over 1800 FBI files and no one even got arrested, let alone went to jail.

Now, the Obamanazis have the Patriot Act and control all 3 houses of government: This is an Ill Wind

That's right. I saw no good in it either. Far too many here applauded Bush for being behind it at the time. For anybody to be surprised at this now is short sighted at a minimum. People continuously want so desperately to believe that their government is going to be their advocate, and in spite of repeatedly having evidence to prove that it consistently does otherwise, they keep believing. I believe this is by definition INSANITY.... doing the same thing over and over under the same conditions and expecting a different result.

I sent you e-mail yesterday. :-)

Bush is looking more like an enemy of the free state every day.

CO, I constntly reminded people what Hillary would do against her enemies if she had this power...I was roundly booed and ridiculed.

This is why conservatives lose, they can’t think more than one move ahead.

I admit it. I supported the Patriot Act. You were right.

This report is beyond creepy. It’s almost at the 1984 level.
This is of a piece with the Clinton administration’s abuse of RICO statutes to go after anti-abortion groups.

WOSG’s Monitor Rule: Any law designed by well-meaning law-and-order conservatives to expand police powers will be perverted by the liberals when in power to suppress the liberties of patriotic law-abiding conservatives.

I totally agree! Bush,, God love him,, gave us so much crap!! The TSA and Homeland Security. Both Dem ideas that he caved to!
Ok,, so we’re all extremists now! Might as well just make the Republican party and all Republicans for that matter extremists. Sounds like anything other than one party rule is going to be treason!
So here we have in our Universities and colleges all across this land real radicals who preach real revolution,,, posing with AK 47’s,, saying we deserved 911,, some like Ayers actually have bombed government buildings,, even proclaiming they haven’t done enough terrorism,,,, and do any of them make the list????? Is Bill Ayers name mentioned anywhere at all??? Any left wing Fascists in the mix???
Oh God no!! What am I thinking!! If Bill Ayers were mentioned then that would lead to Obama!!!
No way!! Ayers isn’t a terrorist!! No,, he’s out there changing our education system!!!

You most certainly were right. As much as I dislike LBJ, his words were and are alarmingly true in this day and age:

“You do not examine legislation in light of the benefits it will convey if properly administered, but in light of the wrongs it would do and the harms it would cause if improperly administered.” Lyndon Baines Johnson
