FAIRFAX, Va. - (Business Wire) According to a new study from the Journal of American Medical Association, bed bugs do not transmit disease to their victims, but infestations continue to increase worldwide. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) has reported a 71% increase in bed bug infestations in the states since 2001 and urges public awareness in helping to curtail a further rise in prevalence.

The study also found that typically 50% of people exposed to bed bugs experience allergic reactions. “Bed bugs remain unnerving because they inject an anesthetic-like liquid that numbs the skin as they bite, leaving their victims undisturbed,” said Greg Baumann, senior scientist for NPMA. “Unless you experience an allergic reaction, you many not know you’ve come into contact with bed bugs—that is until an infestation appears in your own home or business.”

Let's divide U.S. in half: one side is DDT-free zone where you can have all bedbugs you want. The other side is DDT zone where you can exterminate bedbugs at will.

As a little boy down South- where the bugs will almost literally fly off with you, they are so heavy-- I used to play in the clouds of DDT from the Bug Truck the county ran.

Using the simple ( and perhaps flawed ) logic of children, I and my playmates thought "bad for bugs, good for us!"

While I wouldn't recommend that, now, I would rather dust the sheets with DDT powder than have bedbugs...ick!

Bed bugs, if you live in Colorado, you know where they come from. Every new crop of wetbacks brings them! Mexican bed bugs!

Here we have another "gift" to us from Ted Kennedy. As we drift down the slippery slope toward becoming a third world country, we can think about the relaxed immigration policies put forth by Ted. Not only do we have bedbugs, but also new strains of TB, AIDs, and other infectious diseases common to Third World countries.

Same for my area, the bedbug problem seems to have showed up around the same time we saw a rise in immigrants(Mexican) I know people who have moved into apt.’s that were recently vacated by Mexicans and found themselves overrun with them, some had to wind up throwing out most of their furniture. You walk into hardware stores nowadays, the first thing you see are display stands stocked with Bedbug removal products.

watch out for the kissing bug. it spread chagas. a disease you cannot get rid of.
