Liberals Disrupt Tancredo Speech at UNC-Chapel Hill
Carolina Politics Online ^ | 4/14/2009 | Bane Windlow

Tom Tancredo’s speech at UNC tonight was disrupted multiple times and from what I understand may have never even began. Several immature children who are students at the university ran up to the front of the room when Tancredo entered and held up a banner and began chanting over and over not allowing him to speak. A police officer eventually removed them and then several members of the audience began getting belligerent and shouting profanities at Tancredo. Ironically, they did all of this under the guise of free speech, claiming it was their First Amendment right to continue preventing Tancredo from speaking. Evidently free speech to them is only important when it’s speech they agree with and Tancredo’s First Amendment rights don’t matter. Don’t be surprised by this, however. Incidents like these go on all the time at college campuses. Bear in mind these are children who are there on their parents’ dimes and who have never lived a day in the real world in their entire sheltered lives.

There are two videos of the disruptions at the site you can watch. I also heard that somebody broke a window but that is not in the videos.

Everytime I hear of liberals pulling these kinds of stunts, I get visions of the Manson family. They all remind me of Manson family members.

Tancredo’s a patriot. If these kids value their future they’d listen to him.

exactly. There lies the hypocrisy that the left cannot simply understand..that free speech goes both ways. Heck, you don’t even need to stay at the Holiday Inn to grasp this simple concept.

This is typical. In order to _value_ something, you have to understand it first. Their studies make sure that doesn't happen.

I don’t know why a conservative or libertarian would even bother speaking (or attempting to in this case) at a university. They are nothing but an incubator of most that is bad in the country.

What I find to be just crazy is how we have a culture of which if you haven’t attended one of these dreadful places for “education”, you can’t get a good job. WTF is up with that? Look at all of our pathetic politicians, and the people that have overseen the destruction of our country. All of them have one thing in common, they attended one of those God-forsaken universities.

At this point in time, I would find the absence of a diploma from such a place to be a resume enhancer if I was looking to hire someone...

Yup. And one novel way to do it is to take the audio from these idiots (and other incidents, Code Pink, etc.) and to infiltrate a liberal speech and start blaring on some boom box(es) or tapping into the forum's amplification setup the very recording of libs disrupting a conservative speech. Inevitably the crowd will denounce the "childish behavior" just before they realize that the recorded disruptors are actually libs doing to a conservative just what they had denounced. Make sure that a separate recording is made by an "outraged" liberal that wants to record proof of the "assault" but who, in reality, is recording the episode for internet posterity.

What a surprising turn of events! Nobody could have seen this coming!

If this kind of thing continues to happen a few more times, maybe some kind of preemptive security measures could be considered.

What do you think?

In 1987, then-VP George Bush made an appearance at the University of Minnesota. A full capacity crowd (myself included) met him with at least 90% of the people wanting to hear his speech at Coffman Memorial Union.

The other 10% were the problem.

They chanted, swore and otherwise carried on in a manner intended to disrupt the speech. I had the great misfortune of being seated near a bunch of these babbling fools. I asked one of them why they’re doing this and they said “To exercise our rights of free speech”.

I replied “What about my rights to hear someone speak freely?”

This fat-ass dork looked at me and said “Aw, you don’t wanna hear what this fascist (Bush) has to say anyway”.

I replied in a surly tone “Yeah, actually I do”.

He turned around and resumed chanting and yelling. I felt an overwhelming urge to club this dork over the head with my bookbag but being arrested for assault wasn’t something I was looking for.

The bottom line for these assclowns?

Free speech for me - but not for you or anyone I disagree with.

Ironically, they did all of this under the guise of free speech, claiming it was their First Amendment right to continue preventing Tancredo from speaking.

Be careful. Your criticism will get you labeled as a right wing extremist and thus you will come under the close observation of Homeland Security.

I applaud any Republican who dares to show up at a university or college and speaks the truth.

If one or two minds can be changed, I see it as a victory. Not a huge victory - but a victory nonetheless.

My biggest problem is that campus police and the administration need to get tough on those who attend these speeched solely to scream, yell and prevent the speaker from giving their speech or keeping others from hearing that speech.

In a mature world, a campus cop or member of the administration shouldn’t have to get up in advance and say “Now, I encourage you to behave and not disrupt this speech. Let’s be respectful of our speaker and others in attendance”.

But it definitely needs to be made clear that any person disrupting the speech will be subject to immediate removal and will face possible sanctions including arrest if they don’t abide by the rules.
