Six Things You Should Know About the Homeland Security Report on ‘Rightwing Extremism’

Homeland Security Warns of Rise in Right-Wing Extremism

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report entitled “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment”, dated April 7, 2009, is apparently an unclassified summary of a larger classified report.

1.  The summary contains few proper names, has no footnotes of any significance, lists very few sources, and is drafted with a prejudice against anyone who criticizes the role of the federal government in our lives today. It lumps together in its definition of “rightwing extremism” hate groups, anti-government groups, and single issue groups “such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

My guess is that the sentiments revealed in the report I read are the tip of an iceberg that the DHS would prefer to keep submerged until it needs to reveal it. This iceberg is the heavy-hand of government; a government with large and awful eyes, in whose heart there is no love for freedom, and on whose face there is no smile.

2.  The document itself cautions the reader that the document is “not to be released to the public, the media, or other personnel who do not have a valid need-to-know without prior approval” of the DHS. The document refers to itself as one of a series of intelligence assessments intended to “deter, prevent, preempt, or respond to terrorist attacks against the United States.”

3.  The thrust of this report is that in the present environment of economic instability, returning military veterans, those who fear of the loss of Second Amendment-protected rights, those threatened by an African-American president, and those who fear “Jewish ‘financial elites’” could all be a fertile breeding ground for groups whose power and ideas the government hates and fears.

I was at a tea party this afternoon and a homeland security car slowly drove by. I live in a small town too. If they put me on this list I will be proud!

This report is why paranoid, godless, insane lesbians should not be given power within government or anywhere else for that matter.

I tend to agree with the quote you cite from the piece. I read the entire declassified version and found little I could argue with. We do have a very fluid situation economically in the U.S. right now, people are hurting and emotionally strung out, veterans have come back with underlying emotional problems in the past, we do have white supremacists and other hate groups in America who prey on the weak and down-hearted, pro-life advocates have bombed and murdered abortionist. There was a disclaimer at the top that they have detected no threats from any group.

What's under the surface of the report would scare the be-Jesus out of me if it contains what I think it contains — the seeds of destruction. I don't plan on being here, but it could be a problem for some others not similarly disposed.

He worked that angle to the max actually. He traded on his religion to rip people off.

Heard someone on Michael Savage wonder if it was just a coincidence that this report was released the day before the Tea Parties.

I don’t personally believe in coincidences.

True ... but we outnumber them this time around and, with the present form of government held intact, any pain and poverty inflicted can be alleviated in an election cycle. What’s a free republic without a little risk?

What we really need is a document that lays out the intentions of the 0bama regime. From ACORN, to 0bama’s Civilian Defense Force, to controlling the census, to taking over private companies, to taking over the internet, to the Fairness Doctrine, to targeting veterans, etc. etc.

Interesting.

Personally, I found PLENTY to be argue with and to be alarmed about. That they would preface thier assesment with such a disclaimer adds all the more reason to suspect the underlying bad-faith intent of the document:

"(U//LES) The DHS/Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) has no specific information that domestic rightwing* terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but rightwing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues. The economic downturn and the election of the first African American president present unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment."

In other words, "we have zero evidence that this is occurring but we should redouble our surveillance anyhow"

It may leave you confident of our government but it leaves me cold.

They won’t use the word “terrorist” regarding someone who wishes to kill all Americans, Jews, and destroy democracy, but will use that term to describe a legal US Citizen who has moral values, and loves this country. Shame.

When that right wing document was discovered was it on the White House Website alone?

I believe Roger Hedgecock was the first to get a copy of the document. It would not have been posted on an official website because it is designated as FOUO... "For Official Use Only" which is one step below "Confidential". My guess is that the source of the document was someone within DHS.

No, I obviously didn't make my point clear. It is VERY alarming that our government would undertake such a project without anything more than hypotheses to drive it.

As I said, it's what is under the surface of the declassified portion of the document that is frightening — which I believe speaks to your point, as well.

While we always have fringe elements in society who are pretty much “loose cannons” and cannot be anticipated, it is unfortunate the government is setting up such scenarios and painting otherwise law-abiding citizens with a broad brush. Believe me, I've seen what this politically correct mob mentality can produce — up close and personal. You have no idea until you have them camped on your doorstep and find out the hate they bear you and the ideology they cling to. Truly, I speak from experience.

You’ll never get that. Fascism never can be seen for what it is until it’s too late. If, and I stress IF, that’s what is behind this you won’t know what hit you until it’s on you.

You’ll wake up one day — like every other day — never having done anything different, never having any idea what is waiting just hours away and you’re in the middle of a battle for your life. There’s no one to call — no authority you can summon, no one with any power who is still thinking clearly — you try to reason with the mob and it is pointless. You stand on your decent reputation of 40 years and it doesn’t mean anything. If you survive, you realize you have been saved by an act of God, because there was surely no one you could go to on this earth.

Pretty much. Then there was the “hate crimes” prosecution our Attorney General Jay Nixon was behind during the Presidential Campaign. I’d say these folks would have been placed on medication as recently as a decade ago. Now, not so much — THEY’re normal — WE’re the nuts. Go figure.

“Has anyone seen a document addressing Left Wing Extremists like they are now claiming exists?”

No, Silly. You’ll have to wait until the ink dries. Honestly, you kids will just need to cool you jets — the grown ups have everything under control.

Your comment made me smile. Hubby is off for the Tea Party at 6:30 p.m. tonight here in St. Louis. I told him, “Whatever you do don't look up at the sky.” He said, “What? Why not?” I said, “Don't you remember the movie ‘Enemy of the State’ with Wil Smith? Gene Hackman told him not to look up because the satellite can identify you.” He just smiled and said, “I'd be honored.” I told him we'd miss him if they come and take him away. ;-)
