It is not possible to predict what would be the results of 2010 elections let alone the 2012 elections. The only thing we can do is to work very hard on winning these elections and defeat the socialists.
The essence of being a conservative is that you are a strong, independent, hard working, talent via experience, individual.
The essence of being a liberal is to denigrate the accomplishments of the conservatives, attribute their success to the state, and then appropriate the state’s “fair share”.
Bottom line, conservatives will always do well. When socialists take power, it is the poor, the weak, the lazy who starve. The independent conservative always finds a way.
If the socialists gain control, it will be tough on everyone, but especially so on the liberals themselves.
I gently disagree, what today’s events do accomplish is now a counterpoint has been created at the water cooler and on the job, for all the “Obama is loved” nonsense, there now exists a counterpoint of milions of people protesting against him.
I hope you’re right, though I’m not convinced that this particular delusion can be broken.
The Republican party is dead, and the sooner it is buried the sooner the counterrevolution can begin.
Diverting political energy into a hopeless cause is counterproductive.
Well, the other side of the coin is Shrum is partially right, the Chamber of Commerce/Globalist wing of Republicism is only interested in the bottom line, not in American Culture, they and GWB have placed a demographic nuclear weapon in America.
You’re gonna be waiting a long time, little buddy.
Yep, and that’s key. There isn’t a Gingrich like we had in 1994 providing the leadership and the vision.
“True, but Republicans also took big losses in Congress. Bush and some Republicans in Congress did a great deal to damage the party, and it was a factor in the presidential and congressional contests.”
Most of those Republicans thrown out of office were RINOS, not true conservatives.
After 8 years of GOP rule, true conservatives and independents were disappointed, and rightfully so. The worm will turn.
Re: Post 26. You echo my sentiments exactly. White guilt, disillusionment about Bush re the war and out of control spending and lack of excitement about McCain doomed the GOP in the last election.
Those criteria are not long lasting electoral shifts.
But the economy will improve and even if porkulus has nothing to do with it, Obama will take all the credit. It may improve enough by the 2010 election to give Dems. enough traction to stay on top. I think, in the end, it will be foreign policy screw ups that will doom Obama and Democrats. I just hope the screw ups won’t be devastating to our country.
The tea parties are more about spending than taxes.
When the hyperinflation starts, when China dumps dollars, when we have mass unemployment, a lot of the morons who voted for Obama are going to be voting “conservative” even if they are incapable of coherent political reasoning.
Has Shrum ever managed a winning campaign, btw? I know for many, many years, he hadn’t.
He’s right becuase they’re not “republican” events/..protests they’re American protest, and we’re mad as *ll and We’re NOT going to take it anymore!”
I am not so pessimistic but there is a certain truth in regards to demographics. White, Reagan Democrats are pretty much dead and gone. The Newt of 1994 is gone. The party has to appeal to a younger generation. We can possibly win 35 to 45 House seats to win a majority and gain 5 or 6 in the Senate in 2010. However, if the GOP governs on a weak platform and has no strong leader emerge by 2012 they are sunk.
You are correct in saying that the party must appeal to the younger crowd but I see a lot of that crowd being diluted by the libitarianism.
Bob is a fat bastard.
Does that mean conservatism is finished and we are in a managed decline (like an oilfield)?
I don’t want to accept that. I won’t.
If its a complete lost cause, we should all go windsurfing with John Kerry.
Bob Schrum has no idea what he speaks of
Presidential Elections Percent White vote
1976 89% White vote
1980 88% White vote
1984 86% White vote
1988 85% White vote
1992 87% White vote
1996 83% White vote
2000 81% White vote
2004 77% White vote
2008 74% White vote
As a national party the GOP is finished unless it can shift some White vote and recruit Hispanic voters. A primarily Conservative White strategy (GOP + Reagan Democrats) won't work like it used to. There is no longer enough White vote available to GOP conversion. The Democrats have their own share of White hard corp voters who rarely change. Obama and the Democrats will not lose ANY significant percentage of Black vote. Basically the possible movement is in some White and Hispanic votes.
Things would have to get catastrophically bad for there to be enough of a shift to change the alignment in 2010 as happened in 1994 with a weakened Clinton in the 1994 Congressional races, if that is allowed to matter.
The Democrats are criminals lead by Chicago politicians who could teach old time Tammany Hall things about crooked politics. We WON'T get honest elections out of these animals if they are close enough to rig in their favor. (See Al Franken) The Congressional Districts are Gerrymandered to the Max. The only chance is to win by healthy margins which is unlikely.
