Several intelligence officials, as well as lawyers briefed about the matter, said the N.S.A. had been engaged in “overcollection” of domestic communications of Americans. They described the practice as significant and systemic, although one official said it was believed to have been unintentional.

Will there be outrage by the Dems? Will they scream about their civil liberties being infringed upon?

Don’t hold your breath. When 0 is in charge... it’s okay.

“The agency believed that the congressman, whose identity could not be determined, was in contact — as part of a Congressional delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006 — with an extremist who had possible terrorist ties and was already under surveillance”

The truth is always there, in the article. You just have to look for it.

Here it is.

“new details are also emerging about earlier domestic-surveillance activities, including the agency’s attempt to wiretap a member of Congress, without court approval, on an overseas trip, current and former intelligence officials said.”

No wonder Obama won’t let Pelosi and her thugs prosecute Bush et al. This is exactly what they want to go after Bush over and Obama’s NSA is doing it more illegally than Bush’s ever did. Too damn funny.

Doesn’t anyone have the intelligence to say that perhaps we have a helluva lot more terrorists, criminals and their supporters in the US than previously thought, which is why more wiretapps/intercepts were needed.

This is especially true with the growth of Mexican drug cartel gangs in the US (notice that they have their greatest strengths in Democrat Party controlled cities).

Obama and his administration are the enemies of America as much as those under surveillance. In fact, some of his political supporters might just show up in future trials, and I say this based on many decades of researching and investigating the Left and the PLO/jihadists.

... said the intelligence officials, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity because N.S.A. activities are classified.

Uhhh, I don't think leaking something classified is made "ok" by doing it anonymously.

Holy cow! wonder who this could have been

And in one previously undisclosed episode, the N.S.A. tried to wiretap a member of Congress without a warrant, an intelligence official with direct knowledge of the matter said. The agency believed that the congressman, whose identity could not be determined, was in contact — as part of a Congressional delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006 — with an extremist who had possible terrorist ties and was already under surveillance, the official said. The agency then sought to eavesdrop on the congressman’s conversations, the official said. The official said the plan was ultimately blocked because of concerns from some intelligence officials about using the N.S.A., without court oversight, to spy on a member of Congress.

Here is the bombshell in this report:

“The agency believed that the congressman, whose identity could not be determined, was in contact — as part of a Congressional delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006 — with an extremist who had possible terrorist ties and was already under surveillance, the official said. The agency then sought to eavesdrop on the congressman’s conversations, the official said.”

hmmmmm...’OIL FOR FOOD’ scandal anyone?
