Tedisco asks to be declared winner

COLUMBIA COUNTY — 20th Congressional District candidate Republican Jim Tedisco submitted a petition to the Dutchess County Supreme Court Thursday asking the judge to declare him the winner of the extremely close special election race, despite the numbers currently being in favor of his opponent, Democrat Scott Murphy.

Tedisco is also asking the court to authorize recanvasing of all machine ballots to acquire the “proper” tallies. He would like them to reassess the validity of absentee votes already counted, and keep ballots challenged by Tedisco unopened. County Board of Elections Democratic Commissioner Virginia Martin said this new development could result in the election taking quite a bit more time to be decided. She would not venture a guess on how long it will be before the 20th District has a representative in congress.

The votes counted Thursday were military ballots, federal ballots from county residents overseas, affidavit votes from voters who experienced problems at the polls, and the 49 challenges overruled by the Dutchess County Supreme Court Wednesday.

Good for him. We need to take more than a few pages from the Demonrats’ playbook and get right back at ‘em with the same strategies they use against Republicans over and over again.

Yes, but unfortunately only those that had been returned by a 30 day window instead of the normal 45 day window.

Normally, there are 45 days allotted from the point of mailing of a military ballot to a soldier to the return of that ballot to the jurisdiction. In this case, military ballots were allotted only 30 days to make the round trip.

So in this respect, Tedisco is being short-changed.

Ted: you lost. Accept it.

You took the advice of the McCain wing of the Republican party. You distanced yourself from conservatism. You set this up, now live with the loss.

“at least it appears military ballots have been counted.”

Sadly, the military votes that didn’t make the deadline won’t be counted, and those are the vast majority.

“Crucial Military Votes Excluded in New York Special Election

Overseas ballots take weeks to reach voters and be returned unless special measures are taken to speed things up. But the elections officials refused to do anything to speed things up, or mail the ballots out early enough. The result is that perhaps 90 percent of the ballots will be tossed in the ..”

Anybody from the 20th district PLEASE don’t let this issue go away. Call a talk show and/or write an editor to the editor. I did both; please join me to fight for our military who are fighting for us.
