(Kay Baily) Hutchison replacements perplexed
POLITICO ^ | Apr 17, 2009 | JOSH KRAUSHAAR

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s decision to challenge Republican Gov. Rick Perry in next year’s gubernatorial primary is leaving her would-be Senate successors perplexed on how to handle their campaign finances.

SNIP

Already at least four Republicans are running and raising money: former Secretary of State Roger Williams, Texas Railroad Commissioners Elizabeth Ames Jones and Michael Williams and state Senate President Florence Shapiro.

But the most aggressive campaign organization is being built by the Democratic mayor of Houston, Bill White, who raised $1.8 million over the past three months and has $2.1 million in the bank.

snip

The complicating factor is the sheer number of elections that could be held to determine who will hold the seat. If Hutchison resigns before her term expires or is elected governor in 2010, her would-be successor would have to run in as many as five elections in the next three years.

There would be an all-party special election — held from May 2009 to November 2010 — to determine who would hold the seat until the 2012 election. If no candidate received a majority of the vote, a runoff would be held to determine the winner.

The regularly scheduled election would then be held in 2012, featuring different party primaries and the November general election. If no candidate received a majority of the vote in the primary, there would be another runoff then as well.

KBH should get off the dime and resign, the sooner the better. With the convuluted election schedule, candidates need certainty to plan a winning campaign. Are any of the named Reps good conservative Senate replacements?

She never has anything conclusive to say. Always hedging her bets.

Except when she's bashing Sarah Palin.

Fey Bailout Hutchison is a RINOs RINO. I am perplexed how Texan Republicans could give her ANY support.

I personally am backing Michael Williams...he seems to me to be a strong conservative who will be a great change from KBH.

Here is a link to his Austin Tea Party speech

She’s about 7th or 8th down on my list of RINO’s RINO in the Senate. Her actual voting record is pretty good. I would like to see her replaced by a more conservative senator, but I’m pretty nervous looking at the line up.

I’m actually kinda P.O.’d that she wants the Govenor job, and I’m voting for Perry in the primary - no question.

Michael Williams is probably the best of the bunch:

He gave a strong speech at the Austin Tea Party that you can view at:

I'd much rather have him there than KBH.

Republican Ma Richards, that’s what Hutchinson is.

How old is she, about 170? Don’t these turds in the Senate ever put themselves out to pasture?

I sure liked what I heard at the tea party. I will be keeping my eye on him.

Sure hope he doesn’t turn out to be another Michael Steele. I don’t like being so cynical but I distrust all politicians anymore.

Hell, she might already be dead! Maybe she’s just an embalmed puppet-like thing that T. Boone Pickens operates from a box below her chair...

I only vote for her in the Senate cause her opponents are flaming libs.

She will not get the time of day from me in the Primaries however.

Exactly. KBH has the following going for her: (1) she is extremely well connected among wealthy, moderate, Republican Party insiders who have dominated our Party in recent years; and (2) she is a good speaker and has a polished image when speaking to a large, generally not-so-informed voting public, that tend to vote based on a few talking points. The average voter has little idea of what bills KBH actually voted in favor.

You maybe perplexed but never underestimate the support she has had statewide. That said be careful of alienating a lot of her supporters as Ma Palin may need their votes in Texas if’n she decides to make a presidential primary run.

He is no Michael Steele. Michael Williams and Jerry Patterson are my favorite state politicians. Michael Williams is as conservative as any politician we have, and the thing about him is that he does a great job of explaining why he believes conservative values are better. I would love to see him in a debate with Mayor White.

On a side note, we have better put up a candidate of the quality of Michael Williams because Mayor White is a well funded political machine and a very slick politician.
