Why would anyone pay attention to him on how to win elections when he didn’t have a clue for McCain in 2008 and ran one of the worst campaigns ever IMO? Love how C-SPAN and others pick the spokesman for the GOP. He certainly does not speak for the vast majority of Republicans as I have heard more complaints about how he ran the campaign from Republicans who are conservative to liberal. It is one thing that almost all agree on — he ran a louzy campaign. Now he is the spokesman? Give me a break!

I suppose having McCain as the nominee and losing decisively last November and having Obama and his agenda in the White House isn't enough for the Log Cabin crowd. The GOP needs to start its push-back and recovery by cleaning house and getting back to core values.

This attempted "big tent" and trying to appease Democrats and libs is a huge loser. Feeding alligators doesn't make them your friends, they just get bigger and more hungry for their next meal.

Maybe CSPAN should cover some Gay marches?

- Exactly - but when they said “win again” they probably meant win for the other side.

Folks, the gays are not on our side, and will never be on our side. Stop concerning ourselves with attracting more of them to our side, it’s not worth it. By aggressively coming out against what they stand for, we’ll steal more Democrats to our side than we would ever attract in the gay community.

The Log Cabin’s are apparently on our side. How many are conservative? I think most are for smaller government.

I’m not so sure you can look at it as an issue that only 1 to 5 % of the population cares about. Many gays and lesbians have straight friends and family members that also support “gay rights”. That’s the problem from a political perspective. Whatever the GOP decides in terms of its positions on these issues, it’ll have to be reasonable with the rhetoric. (IOW, talking about tradition will do better than criticizing homos as a group.)

The media props up the little McCain girl and Schmidt because their “ideas” hurts the GOP. There’s not enough gay republicans to make a difference, and the GOP will never be gay enough or perverted enough to win over leftists from the DNC. If they tried, they would lose what is left of the current GOP base. Going left is a losing strategy for the GOP. It’s a shame they haven’t figured it out yet.

I can accept that an OCCASIONAL RARE homosexual really does embrace the idea of limited government and is not after special rights for himself. In these very rare cases I am happy to have him or her donate, support, vote. Tammy Bruce comes to mind? But it seems that even when the OCCASIONAL out homosexual advocates for conservative causes, it is brief and they end up turning.

I do not want to do any sort of special “outreach.” I want to just stand on core conservative constitutional principles. If we build it, they will come.

I heard the LCR leaders were peeved that their organization had been coopted by the left, and are looking to start a new group. Is that true?

Those ‘straight friends and family members that also support gay rights’ are not going to be on our side either. So forget about them. I agree that our rhetoric can be calm and reasoned, but caving in on these issues (and cowering away from criticizing because of political correctness) causes us to lose more votes/support than we ever get from converts.

the part of Schmidt’s speech i saw had him including Terri Schiavo with the gay agenda, that showed me he was not interested in courting just small-government gays

I used to think the Log Cabin Republicans were a tool of the left.

Now I’m sure of it.

The Log Cabin’s are apparently on our side.

I'm not so sure. What is your source for thinking this?

How many are conservative?

Part of question # 1. If you don't know how many are conservative, how can you state that they are "on our side"?

I think most are for smaller government.

Wishful thinking? Or do you have any evidence for any of the assertions in your post.
