Yeah, that’s no quick chat. Interesting.

According to the announcer, there was “mutual respect and friendship,” and Obama promised not to “interfere” in the affairs of Latin American countries. Then at the end, they shook hands and Barry said (in English) to Hugo, “Bye-bye, my friend.”

Yes it was interesting and...it looked to me at least that Obama was being serious with what he was saying. If you watch the face of the interpreter...her expressions seem to indicate Obama’s tone. To me Obama looked really serious like he didn’t want to get “too friendly” with Chavez. That’s how I read it. I don’t know if I am right or wrong but I was at least happy to see Obama with a serious look on his face.

That’s a lengthy report also. Anyone get the gist of what the reporter is saying?

For Obama to even meet with Chavez is disgusting enough. The Presidency has never sunk this low before. Reagan and the Founders are rotating right now.

I absolutely agree with you. He shouldn’t be meeting with any of our enemies. He will learn though. They are probably laughing at him behind his back. I think the serious look on his face that I mentioned might be one of “realization.”

He's legitimizing them.

He's giving them an equal footing with him, he's making them credible in the eyes of the world, he's discrediting their opposition (which does exist) in those nations by validating them as rightful leaders of those nations. He's brushing aside all history, and that appears to be easy for him because essentially he doesn't see it as ‘his’ story. The threats of nuclear missiles pointed at us, the funding of terrorists, the proxy wars that even Cuba was part of........all that is not something Obama was part of or relates too. Obama is the “post American” President and the battles and wars we fought prior to him concern him little.

They're not laughing at him.

They might stab him in the back later down the road when it benefits them, but they're not laughing at him.

He's giving them what they wanted! The regime in Cuba will see vast amounts of money pour in soon, sustaining their broke economy. These despots are being legitimized on the world stage by him and their opposition is being de-legitimized......... They will love him!

Imagine if we went back in time and it's 1940 with a US President going to Germany and talking about how great Fascism is, what a great guy Hitler is......... Even back then there were vast amounts of Americans who didn't support US involvement in the war, and were split in their opinions. No different today. Obama is doing “feel good” politics with despots who have colliding interests with the US. His big smile, casual body language, etc. won't change the fact that Chavez is a dictator, in bed with Russia and Iran, nationalized property belonging to private citizens and firms, allows his country to be used as a safe haven for insurgents fighting in Columbia, a government he'd like to see topple............. but that's OK, Obama can make some nice gestures and show the American masses how popular he is even overseas.

so they stab him in the back and laugh later. In my humble opinion he is making himself the laughing stock of the world.

As someone mentioned on another thread, any lip readers in the house? All I could make out was “When you go into Columbia, Hugo, we’ll back you up with two divisions and the air force.”

We’re not supposed to compromise our principles and water board terrorists, but it is apparantly ok to compromise our principles of human rights, individual freedoms and democracy by getting cozy with dictators to who these principles mean nothing. What kind of message is THAT sending to freedom loving people all over the world.

"Venezuela is a country whose defense budget is probably one six-hundredths of the United States'. They own Citgo. It's unlikely that as a consequence of me shaking hands or having a polite conversation with Mr. Chavez, we are endangering the strategic interest of the United States," Mr. Obama said

Hugo Chavez stated, “The United States Empire is on its way down and will be finished in the near future, “Inshallah!””, a day before meeting TOTUS.

Chavez invoked the Muslim blessing “Inshallah” on the U.S.’s destruction in his statement.

Hizballah is being housed and aided by him. He cuts ties with Israel, completely unprovoked. He is in bed with Amanutjob. He is in bed with Putin. What is the TOTUS doing meeting with this madman short of wanting to legitimize him?

Obama is a foolish amateur who has surrounded himself with amateurs. The juvenile international gifts, repeatedly insulting the English, bowing to the Saudi King, delayed response to Somali pirates, attacking American sovereignty, and now treating a rogue leader like a good friend. One stupidity upon another. He's done more damage in 2 months than Jimmy Carter did in a whole term.
