NOTRE DAME, Indiana, April 17, 2009 - Notre Dame's own Bishop John D'Arcy has expressed a desire to attend "prayerful and dignified" demonstrations led by Notre Dame students against the school's honoring of President Obama on May 17, according to reports.
Bishop D'Arcy's latest statement on his support for peaceful demonstrations clarifies once again an April 10 statement in which the bishop urged protesters "to stay away from unseemly and unhelpful demonstrations against our nation's president or Notre Dame or Father John I. Jenkins."
While construed by several media outlets as a condemnation of all protests, the diocese's communications director told LifeSiteNews.com Tuesday that the bishop is only opposed to "demonstrations that attack the President, Fr. Jenkins or Notre Dame," and said that, "A peaceful, prayerful demonstration is okay." (http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/apr/09041404.html)
The American Papist blog posted correspondence yesterday from Fort Wayne-South Bend Bishop John D'Arcy's secretary indicating that the Bishop had spoken to Notre Dame Response leader Mary Daly to affirm his support for the group's efforts against the invitation.
"I am supportive of all efforts by NDResponse or any other prayerful and dignified demonstrations by Notre Dame students; and if my schedule allows, I will attend and also meet with students if they would find this helpful," said the Bishop.

I am not sorry for the frank language in the video. I believe that Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezechiel and Daniel (the Bible's frank-language Good Guys) would have no problem with telling it like it is.
Twenty-seven more days, people.
This is meant to be an AD-HOC action list to (selectively) report and urge specific actions to stop Obama and win the Battle of Notre Dame. This is not just for Catholics. It's for anybody who wants --- in the words of Mary of Nazareth--- to "put down the mighty from their thrones" (baby-killers in high places) and to "lift up the humble" (tiny infants and their valiant defenders).
If you want me to delete your name, I will just as cheerfully remove you if you will send me a "Private Message".
I'm asking for "Private Message" for deletions only, to ensure that I see your request.
We have the momentum. Let's push on and win this one.
I want to make a big sign relating to PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION...what it is, what it looks like and include the TWO VOTES our creepy president make in support of making it legal in Illinois when he was a state senator there.
I despise this baby killer.
Amen sister!
Thank you!

Excellent video.
I found this at The P.O.P.E. Project (oh, and that stand for "Prevent Obama from proclaiming Evil"):
"You've probably been wondering about plans for the protest of Obama's commencement address at Notre Dame on May 17. I'm booking busses to N.D. from several spots around Chicagoland, and I'll let you know when all the details are in place. Thanks for your patience!

Looks like you can get more info from either
They may have info. about other cities planning buses or carpools.
Anybody else? Let me know, I'll try to help people make connections.
Good video...very truthful and to the point.
bttt
So, in other words, he is saying.... rallies and demonstrations that are not seen or heard by anyone are cool.
but... if it/they are out in the open and there is a chance it will catch anyone’s attention... then it is undignified?
Shame!
Who can remove Fr. Jenkins’ faculties?
Thank you for the link. Excellent video, scathing commentary. I signed the petition as well.
It looks like a number of different groups may be planning a number of different demonstrations (these, and more), and whether they will finally coalesce around one plan, I hope so but I do not know.
I mean, if Bishop D'Arcy joins a "peaceful prayerful" one going on in one place on campus, and there's a "loud, disturbing, and visibly angry" one going on simultaneously in another place on campus: well, c'est la vie.
"Peaceful prayerful" has its own power, too. I can respect "peaceful prayerful."

Bump for later viewing.
On the other hand, I think Jenkins' Father Superior in the CSC's, Fr. Hugh Cleary, could suspend Fr. Jenkins' faculties anywhere in the world.
I ain't no canon lawyer. A good plan would be to contact both of them.

Perhaps I'm oversimplifying a complex situation.
.
Uh, yeah. Unless you're living in the Diocese of Ft. Wayne-South Bend Diocese, nobody in your parish or diocese would have any jurisdiction about ANYONE at Notre Dame.
Nobody in the Catholic hierarchy "owns" or "controls" the University of Notre Dame. (They are a separately incorporated legal entity directed by a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees.)
Just about the only way can "get at" them is: (1) the bishop (D'Arcy, see link below) could take away their right to call themselves "Catholic" -- and even that has no effective enforcement, because "Catholic" is not a Trademark or Copyright term, unfortunately; or (2) ND President Fr. John Jenkins could be assigned elsewhere immediately, by his Father Superior in Rome, or his priestly faculties could be suspended.
That's explained here.
Any financial boycott against a parish or diocese (other than Ft. Wayne-South Bend) would be completely irrelevant. It would be like refusing to pay your local property tax because of something that happened in a different state.
