The Morning After TP...It's (Still) the Media, Stupid (orig 4-16, needs a repost)
4-20-09 | Bob J

Posted on 04/20/2009 9:39:05 AM PDT by Bob J

The Tea Parties are over, the clean up is finished and all that's left are the lamentations over the despicable media coverage priot to and during, and, to agonizingly watch as the event and conservatives are slowly roasted over the spit while the MSM skewers it for the next couple of weeks. Because, it ain't done until Olberman says it is.

Which reminds me of a story. A turtle was about to cross a creek when a scorpion asks if he can hitch a ride on the turtles shell. At first the turtle says no as the scorpion might sting him. The scorpion says he wouldn't do that since the turtle is helping him so the turtle agrees. Halfway across the scorpion stings the turtle and as they both sink into the creek the turtle asks "why?". The scorpion responds "because it's my nature".

The only thing more ironic than praying for a fair shake from the MSM are the expressions of shock and dismay when they stick the shiv in our back.

Conservatism suffers under a delusion. Many of us believe that Obama, Cinton, Pelosi, the DNC etc. are our enemies. They aren't, they are our opponents and adversaries. Our real enemy is the leftist dominated fascist media that operates the propaganda machine which targets each and every conservative cause and makes our opponents dreams come true.

IMO, without that significant hedgemony that gives them the ability to lie, cheat, obfuscate, deny, cover up and consequently shape the opinions of too many ignorant voters, there never would have been any Clintons, a liberal dominated congress or an Obama presidency. That significant hedgemony gives them the ability to successfuly manipulate opinion on every single issue important to conservatives...abortion, 2nd amendment, taxes, spending, size of government, foreign policy, etc. It gives them the ability to successfully lie, attack, denigrate and trivialize any champion of our causes including their policies, endeavors and successes. It gives our opponents the ability to consistently win.

Let me get to my point. The Tea Parties were great, hopefully they got a message across and helped build esprit d'corps. But that endeavor and any subsequent follow up are doomed to eventual failure as long as the left holds their significant advantage in the media. We may see the occasional victory in battle but no conservative movement can survive, much less win, a long term war with the constant pounding and beating we take from the lefts media leviathan.

This is a war and our enemy is the media. Until conservatives realize that and start planning, acting and executing as if everything we hold dear to be in mortal jeopardy, we will continue to push that boulder up the hill only to have it roll back down on us every time.

What is the answer? Take all that time, money, energy, talent, commitment and resolve we put into pushing issues and candidates into a war eliminating leftist domination of the media.

Once that is accomplished, we won't have to roll boulders up hills...the hill will become a level playing field where conservative values win 4 times out of 5.

I agree with that. I would also submit that our education system and even the unions must be brought under control. Neither should be able to abuse their subjugated on a political or ideological basis. The schools should educate, and the unions should represent their members on matters of employment ONLY.

Yes, you are correct. Nomination for POST OF THE YEAR! Now- what are the specifics on the plan to eliminate this propaganda machine?

The Rasmussen poll shows 51% of the public supports the tea parties. Why pay any attention at all to the mass media. Quit whining. I am so tired of fellow conservatives whining and playing the victim card.

It really pains me to say this, but I think you are right. You have to read most political articles in a newspaper before the truth leaks out around the spin.

The schools are able to indoctrinate and unions are able to wield their power because they have been under the protective umbrella of the media for 40 years.

That’s my point, everything begins and ends with the media. We have only this one entity we need to focus and target that will help EVERY single conservative issue and cause from abortion to the size of government to electing proper representatives.

I already see different factions of the conservative movement gearing up to hijack the TP’s for their own benefit. This will lead to bickering, disunity and eventual implosion as each fights over vision, power and turf. I’m waiting to see how the people who originally organized the TP’s respond but since there is no one really in charge I can’t see how there can be any resistance.

Media prejudie and bigotry is the one unifying issue we all have as conservatives. It’s sad to see how few understand the opportunity right in front of our eyes.

People say the GOP is the stupid party. But stupid smells from the bottom up. Until we as the grassroots start planning and playing a little smarter we will continue to lose ground to the left.

I know that media bias has been your emphasis for a long time. I share that view. I believe your emphasis would be to take over certain media players and provide a more well balanced edition of the news. Perhaps your plan would emphasize more the idea of taking one media player down, then asking for a better shake from the remaining. Either way, I’m all for it.

Whatever your plan, you should spell it out so that folks could sign on.

I don't think so:

I agree 1,000%. We must view the MSM as the enemy and fight them in the way we best can.

When you subscribe to the New York Times you are feeding the enemy.

When you subscribe to the Washington Post you are feeding the enemy.

When you subscribe to the NewsWeek you are feeding the enemy.

When you subscribe to the Baltimore Sun you are feeding the enemy.

When you watch ABC, NBC, and CBS TV you are feeding the enemy.

When you MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, CNN Headline news you are feeding the enemy.

What's the price of freedom?

The most effective thing every single conservative can do to is to not support the liberal MSM. You can do it with a phone call to cancel any of the above. You can not turn your TV to those channels. You can stop buying or subscribing to those magazines.

What's the price of freedom?

Go one step further and convince your family and friends.

What's the price of freedom?

TEA parties are GREAT but YOU can stop the media with simply not supporting those who tear down our nation and support this puppet regime.

You know a small piece of the price of freedom. Will you pay it?

The first thing is for us to boycott the smear machine. their are an awful lot of rich Republicans in this country who could buy some papers or at least fund a boycott effort (best bet is when amnesty comes up). If they don't then we end our long time support for tax cuts for these people. Either they finally spend some money on something beside tax cuts or we help hit them with more taxes until they are willing to do something about the bustards. Obviously rich lib's deserve to pay taxes and long as I see the current atmosphere rich Republicans can pay for them too.

Nothing can happen until conservatives realize who is the real enemy. Until then we spray our efforts all over the map not making much headway in any direction.

The first order of business is talking about it and bringing people to an agonizing reappraisal of our focus and efforts.

I’m sorry, but when barely a majority (about the same number of people who voted for George Bush) can agree that taxation, spending and debt is even an issue, that is a disaster.

I would expect 51% as a starting point, not an end. As the dems move more paying of the federal budget to coporations and the wealthy, you can see not only this number going down, but those in the bottom 50% fighting harder to keep there taxpaying advantages.

The left has effectively balkanized the country on the issue of taxes...those who do and those who don’t. They’re winning this argument and most don’t even know it.

Boycotts are usless unless they are narrowly focused and have numbers behind them. You have to have the ability to put them out of business, in fact may you need to do that once or twice just to put a couple notches on your belt.

Nobody will fear you unless there is something tangible to fear.

It took a long time to get here, it will take a long time to reverse the rot and apathy. I think this was an amazingly good start. Don't be in the back seat asking if we are there yet.

The left has effectively balkanized the country on the issue of taxes...those who do and those who don’t. They’re winning this argument and most don’t even know it.

All you have to do is mention other issues, such as the bailouts, cap-and-trade, and the fed printing money. It isn't what you make, it isn't what you take home, it's what your money is worth. I could make a billion dollars a year in Zimbabwe money and not buy a loaf of bread. It will come. I've been out protesting for 10 years and never saw anything like this. Normal people are finally getting motivated. What they want, more than anything, is honesty from government, instead of a bunch of self-serving, self-promoting, self-enriching weasels.

I don’t know how you got that from my comments. Right now it’s not a matter of where you sit in the car, it’s whether you’re even in the right car to begin with.

Yes, but a voice that needs to be heard. This topic is important and you brought it up. Expand on what you’d like to see done to correct the situation.

Sorry, but a lot of people worked their butts off to make this happen, and got hundreds of thousands of people out to protests who had never protested in their lives. And if the media had such a stranglehold as you state, we wouldn't have gotten a 40 percent approval rating.

The next step is to advance on all fronts. Keep organizing new meetings. Target corrupt politicians to be voted out of office, such as Chris Dodd. We also need folks to develop entertaining political content to get out on new media channels such as video-capable cell phones. We gotta realize that we are not fighting Katie Couric, we are fighting Jon Stewart - because so many people treat HIM as news, because they want entertainment, not just facts. But the various approaches are not exclusive of each other - instead, they need to be complimentary. There is no one magic bullet here. But the underlying theme has to be, IMO, demanding honesty and integrity in politics - and we will unleash at the ballot box the gathering crowds upon those who fail such tests.

“Nobody will fear you unless there is something tangible
to fear.”

that is why we need money behind it and cooperation. Given the way most Republicans feel about the media the other part should be relatively easy. People need to stop complaining about the media and do something about it.
