Our Veterans: Damaged Goods with Dangerous Minds?
Human Events ^ | 21 Apr 09 | Pete Hegseth

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), lifelong wounds, external and internal, are all real. Thousands of veterans have returned severely wounded and will need daily support for the rest of their lives. It is our country’s duty to care for them and provide them the very best.

But, in addition to supplying them the best medical benefits possible, we owe it to these veterans to portray them as the heroes they are and ensure they are honored and accepted -- not feared or scorned -- when they return from the battlefield.

These men and women -- wounded or not -- are the best our country has to offer, willing to put their lives on the line for their country and sacrifice for ideals larger than themselves. While their peers chase paychecks and pop-stars, veterans chase insurgents and terrorists for small paychecks and no fame. Veterans love their country, and most want nothing but respect, honor, and recognition of the successes and victories they have earned.

This started on those hideously boring and repetitive cop show “dramas” like Law and Order, whose plunging plotlines and vast desertification of ideas demanded something SPICEY so they introduced the “concept” of the mentally deranged veteran, emotionally traumatized and intellectually scared from their participation in an “unjust war”.

As soon as they started airing that garbage I stopped watching. All those cop “dramas”. They are all in the dustbin of history as far as my TV watching goes.

So I’m watching a lot less TV these days.

And I’m loving it.

I have listened to my husband change over the phone these last few months. Each time he loses a brother in arms, I think he is losing a little bit of himself. They have had too many casualties this deployment. I am concerned at how coming home will affect him. He has sacrificed so much of himself, and those lost have sacrificed their lives, and this is the thanks they get. It’s almost too much for me to hear sometimes. It disgusts me, and it hurts me, on a level I can’t explain. My husband is a good man, a good husband and an amazing father. He is an fantastic Marine. I know he can, over time, repair. But listening to losers like our current leaders bash him will never help in that process. And for that, I would love to spit on them the way they spit on him.

Thank your husband for his service from one grateful American family!
My husband was AF,one daughter is AF and one daughter and her husband were Marines. They are angry about the treatment their fellow servicemen are receiving at the hands of the current administration.

Yup. They’re absolutely right. We’re all crazy, unbalanced, insane, maladjusted, unsafe, ready to snap,
and generally nuts, baby-killers.

At the same time, we pay bills, take care of our children, visit parents and grandparents, shop for food at the supermarket, do volunteer work, work eight and more hours a day, think about our military experiences and try to put them in perspective, and do it again the following day, and the next day.

And, thanks to liberal scu&bags, we have the reputation of being crazy, unbalanced, insane, maladjusted, unsafe, ready-to-snap, generally nuts, baby-killers.

Amazing, absolutely amazing.

IMHO

This news story is purposely designed and timed to piss off a vet somewhere. When our soviet congress started up with the anti firearms legislation, their media ran a bunch of stories about shootings around the country. Guess what, this a well coordinated effort. They are now building the case that vets come back from overseas as a bunch a deranged killers. The dem. media is probably trolling for stories that bolster their false arguement.
My grandfather was US Army infantry in the trenches in France, WWI. Came back here, made a productive life and never harmed anyone. MANY of my family served in combat and non combat roles. This has NOTHING with military service, but everything with the morality or lack of morality of the person. This is nothing more than another attack on American citizens who mostly vote repub. This gang has changed the game from going after their political opponants to attacking their votors. Lenin would be proud.

I want you to know I for one will keep your husband and others in my daily prayers. As a disabled VN veteran I have an idea what he is facing and will face should he need medical care if he becomes SC disabled upon separation. Battling our government to get what was promised to us should we need it after serving our nation in combat is a battle that needs fighting on a daily basis. God speed and God bless you and all of our present day troops and past veterans.

“And for that, I would love to spit on them the way they spit on him”.

...I’m with you! My Father served in WW2, Korea and Vietnam and is buried in Arl. Nat’l. He’s spinning in his grave at the atrocious behavior of these piss ants in the WH.

My family’s utmost wishes and prayers for you and your husband. His safe return to the US, and his ability to get back to every day life upon his return. Thank you for your service and sacrifice!

Ma'am, if it were up to me, we would as a matter of course cut herms of white marble from living rock to men like your husband, as the Athenians once did, who garlanded them with flowers on appropriate occasions to celebrate the excellence of their men and their continuing communion with the gods of their city.

We don't do that because we are a more modest society, but we should be ungrudging, straightforward, and honest about the honors and thanks we do accord our servicemen. Thank your husband and you for your service -- I grew up an Air Force brat, I know what the military life is like. You go where they send you, just like that old Charlton Heston movie line, and for that I thank you both, and I hope that the Marine Corps can do what is needful to restore, reinvigorate, and reinspirit your husband to the man he was. Whether it's psychiatry or chaplaincy, or just the support of his brother Marines who were there with him in all the fights, I hope your standup Marine finds the sustenance he needs.

Amen, AMEN, USMCWife6869!

What this administration is doing to our veterans is despicable. If I could join you in spitting on them, I would.

Damaged Goods with Dangerous Minds

Ugh. The "crazy vet" crap rises again. It is the leftist attack on Vietnam Vets rehashed for a new generation.

The maladies are real. The left is using wounded and ill soldiers to foist their own agenda.

I never said that the maladies were not real. But labeling these men and women as “nuts” and “dangerous” does not help them one bit. If anything, it makes them feel more alienated.

It goes back decades. In the post Vietnam war era, shows like Hawaii Five-O routinely depicted returning vets as bad guys.

And why have they rehashed it? Because it worked fairly well the last time they tried it, back then. History is ever repeating itself, and this is no exception...
