McCain facing 2010 primary
Politico ^ | Ben Smith

Posted on 04/21/2009 9:25:25 AM PDT by Hawk720

Social conservatives tolerated John McCain as the party's nominee, but never trusted him, and he now appears to be facing a serious primary from the right in Arizona next year.

Chris Simcox, the founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and a prominent figure in the anti-immigration movement, is announcing today he's resigned from the group to run in the 2010 Senate primary.

From a forthcoming release:

"John McCain has failed miserably in his duty to secure this nation's borders and protect the people of Arizona from the escalating violence and lawlessness," Simcox said. "He has fought real efforts over the years at every turn, opting to hold our nation's border security hostage to his amnesty schemes. Coupled with his votes for reckless bailout spending and big government solutions to our nation's problems, John McCain is out of touch with everyday Arizonans. Enough is enough."

Considering the shape the country is in and the need for conservatives to stand together to save our republic we better be damned thoughtful about what are the important issues. If you would vote against someone who is anti illegal immigration, anti- pork spending, pro smaller government, and pro national soveirgnity because they are not “pro life” then you deserve to lose whatever freedoms you thought you had

"I’m sure McCain has already made that call. You can count on it."

Of course I was being facitious when I said that, but I cannot imgaine that she would campaign for McCain after the way he and his staff have treated her post election. If this Simcox actually has a chance to beat him and is leading in polls leading up to the primary, I can actually see her campaigning for Simcox late in the game to seal the deal. Not before though.

Here in PA, we're having a rematch between Specter and Toomey and I'm feeling mildly optimistic that the result will be different this time. It would be great if Simcox could retire McVain as well, then he and Arlen could form their own RINO party for a rematch in six years or so.

Yeah, I know, they will both be as old as fossils by 2016 and possibly not even living, but the Democrat party needs some competition to represent the deceased demographic.

The gop will destroy Simcox. And he’s given them plenty of ammo.

Why should Simcox bother with US Senate. He should team up with Tancredo and run for POTUS IN 2012.

OH WHAT TICKET, SIMCOX AND TANCREDO IN 2012 !!!!!!

Personally, I voted for Palin.

What happened to J.D. Hayworth? I thought he was considering a challenge to McCain for Senator.

I’m not confident that there also won’t be other social conservatives who will decide to enter this race and end up splitting the conservative votes among each other during the GOP primary. What are conservatives supposed to do about this repeating pattern of having too many conservatives running for certain political offices at the same time and indirectly helping the RINOs to win GOP primaries all over the U.S. and at every political level?

“Considering the shape the country is in and the need for conservatives to stand together to save our republic”

Well, I wouldn’t really have to worry about that because a TRUE conservative candidate would NEVER support the atrocity that is abortion!

And what do you care if he is pro-life? If he gets the other 99% right (hell if he gets immigration right) then I am more than happy

I actually do care. I bet Simcox is pro-life. You can’t care that much for America and be pro-choice.

On the other...how much legislative or political experience does he have?

Who
Gives
A
Crap?

We already know he's a leader of men and if Arizonan's find about 80% of his philosophy agreeable, then what's the problem? You know for certain what his stance on illegal immigration is and that's a far cry from McLame.
