Mexican standoff: Obama must ban assault weapons to halt violence on both sides of border
NY Daily News ^ | 4/20/09 | editors

Much of the talk about the U.S.-Mexico relationship these days centers on the flow of illegal guns south over the border. Fair enough, and long overdue.

American weapons, easily bought thanks to woefully lax gun-control laws, are winding up in the arsenal of Mexican drug cartels, who are murdering thousands and destabilizing our southern neighbor.

The havoc is spilling over into our border states.

But let's not neglect an equally dangerous trend in firearm trafficking - namely, the flow of illegal weapons from America's Southern states north, especially to big cities like New York.

As crime has declined in some big cities in recent years, that war has gotten less ink. But blood is still staining the streets, and easy access to guns is a big reason why.

We've said it before and we'll say it again: Most of the guns used in New York City crimes come from out of state - from places like Virginia, where it's criminally easy to get your hands on a firearm.

So Carlos and Paco will immediately lay down their guns because Obama says so?

Someone wise once said (I paraphrase) "One that is willing to use a gun in the comittance of a crime, would willingly commit a crime to use a gun."

DHS Janet says illegally crossing the border is not a crime. So carrying EBRs across the border can’t be a crime
Somebody didn’t get the memo !!!

War is coming. If they want to retain power and expand their control of human beings, they’er going to have to do something fouls and drastic - just as you have written.

I don’t believe that they counted on the opposition that is growing. Makes for a dangerous set of circumstances.

Well, when the time comes, I’ll give them everything I’ve got.

I’m willing to bet this idiot writer has no idea of the hoops a law-abiding US citizen has to jump through to buy a gun.

MAke no mistake about it - they would rather rule in hell than live peacably and in prosperity with the rest of us. They wil lreduce Western Civilization to rubble as long as they believe that they’ll be the one sitting on top of the rubble heap.

They are muderous monsters.

That's why peaceful separation may be our only option to resolve this peacefully.

I you could buy a gun on the streets of New York within 15 minutes, and chances that gun was obtained via theft no mater what laws are in effect..

The grabbers haven't figured that out. There are laws now on the books that cover illegal weapons and people get caught and charged with possession and sale of illegal weapons, but the revolving doors of the justice allow that trade go on. Why would new laws make any difference?

Anyway, the people that want stronger guns laws are the same people that don't want to build more prisons.

NOTE: The 2nd Amendment is SELF-incorporated to all government entities at every level. It is MORE ABSOLUTE than the 1st Amendment, or any of the others, because the wording forbids not only CONGRESS, but ANYONE from infringing on it. The 1st says “Congress shall make no law...”. The 2nd say “shall NOT be infringed!” Period! End of debate!

Greta’s on right now. They are going to shoot seized full auto’s. (Gee I wonder where those came from? Mexico, not the US, or from any US gun dealer. Same with the .50 cal belts)

That is true. The bleeding hearts never think with their brains. Their mentality is “never in my backyard”. As long as it sounds good and noble, let OTHER people do it.

The bleeding hearts live in a free country because they let OTHER people do work of winning it. Now they want punish those OTHER people. They now say these OTHER people are tyrants.

“Let me assure you that my administration has no intention of registering legally-owned air rifles when used as appropriate in a backyard setting, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, as long as the owner complies with the legal requirements of safe storage and re-registers each of them yearly and pays the tax. I have no intention of infringing on any rights here.”

It would be most effective then to simply make breaking the law illegal. A simple declarative and bold, unambiguous statement that lawbreaking will henceforth be completely illegal, we could stop all crime - in one fell swoop. Why not give it a go?

The biggest mistake our founders made was not burning that red coat traitor’s nest city of new york to the ground. We’re still paying for that.

I just caught the tail end of that segment, if you watched can you verify if I understood correctly?

1. Guest ATF guy admitted that the full-auto firearms came from somewhere else, not the USA.

2. Semi-auto varieties are common in the US and could be smuggled into Mexico.

3. After purchasing these semi-autos in the US and smuggling them into Mexico they could be converted into full-auto rifles.

Conclusion: The US is at fault and should ban semi-auto rifles to stop violence carried out by drug gangs with full-auto rifles in Mexico which can do nothing to help themselves, because they are smart and already made guns illegal there.

Did I get it all?
