Gore Warns Global Warming Will Bring Civilization to a ‘Screeching Halt’ Thursday, January 29, 2009 By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer
(CNSNews.com) – Former Vice President Al Gore told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Wednesday that if action is not taken by the United States to curb greenhouse gas emissions, the world as we know it could disappear.
“If we stop global greenhouse gas emissions today, according to some scientists, we will see an increase in temperatures that many scientists believe would be extremely challenging for civilization,” Gore testified on Capitol Hill. “If we continue at today’s levels, some scientists have said it can be an increase (in global temperature) of up to 11 degrees Fahrenheit.
“This would bring a screeching halt to human civilization and threaten the fiber of life everywhere on the earth,” Gore said. “And this is within the century, if we don’t change.”
Using a power point presentation, Gore showed charts and graphs that, he said, reveal how global warming is causing glaciers to melt around the world, depleting water supplies. He also said rising temperatures already are responsible for natural disasters in the United States, including forest fires, drought, and insect infestations that are killing trees.

I used to see this guy who went around giving talks for IBM, he was very good and very funny at the same time, and he had a definition for an “expert”. He said that it was anyone giving a talk more than 50 miles from his home and used a flip-chart. I guess today he would update to “power point presentation” instead of flip-chart.

Civilization as we know it would not exist without global warming. When a new ice age begins, as a phase of a natural climate cycle, civilization will indeed come to a screeching halt, and billions will starve to death.

Obama wants Cap & Trade, which would be a death sentence for our economy. I have to wonder if Obama and the other Socialist sponsors of this legislation are aware of basic facts. For example: 1) greenhouse gases are not evil, they are essential to keeping the earth warm enough for humans; 2) the most common greenhouse gas is water vapor; 3) CO2 is not pollution, it is essential for plants and humans; 4) CO2 is only a trace element in the atmosphere at 380 parts per million; 5) humans and their activities account for only 3% of CO2 emissions each year; 6) the earth has had cycles of cooling and warming about every 1,500 years due to variations in the sun’s activity and our orbit around the sun; 7) these cycles are beyond human control; 8) about 1,000 years ago, Greenland had vineyards; 9) the earth is cooling now, not warming relative to prior decades; 10) water expands when cooled (or frozen) and contracts when heated, so warmer temperatures would reduce sea levels as ice caps melt; and 11) a major reduction of sun spots in recent years suggests a coming mini ice age.
An excerpt from the March 2009 issue of The American Spectator: “All scientists agree that if man-made global warming is real, it would leave a fingerprint in the form of temperatures increasing with altitude in the tropical troposphere portion of the atmosphere up to a hotspot about 10 kilometers above the surface, reflecting the pattern of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Warming due to solar variations or other natural causes would not leave such a fingerprint pattern. Recently, higher-quality temperature data from balloons and satellites ... enables us to settle the man-made global warming debate definitively. The data from weather balloons shows the opposite pattern: no increasing warming with altitude, but rather a slight cooling with no hotspot. The satellite data shows the same result: no increasing temperature with altitude, no hotspot, no fingerprint, maybe again a slight cooling with altitude. Game over. QED. The global warming empire is rattling around but has not and cannot come up with an effective response. The data is the data. The science is the science. Obama may not know these things, or he may be choosing to ignore the facts in order to create a huge new bureaucracy of socialist government control over our lives. Cap & trade would cause a huge decrease in GDP along with a huge increase in energy costs for Americans, and massive unemployment - probably higher than 15%. This will weaken our national defense capability versus our enemies, threatening capitalism and freedom.
Everyone should write to his or her Congressmoron. Remind them of the facts and the damage that would be caused by “cap & trade”.

If all the nuclear weapons in the world went off at once and all the plants, all the animals died and the earth was sizzling hot for a hundred thousand years, life would survive, somewhere: under the soil, frozen in arctic ice. Necessary for life now, but oxygen is actually a metabolic poison, a corrosive glass, like fluorine.
When oxygen was first produced as a waste product by certain plant cells some three billion years ago, it created a crisis for all other life on earth. Those plants were polluting the environment, exhaling a lethal gas. Earth eventually had an atmosphere incompatible with life. Nevertheless, life on earth took care of itself. In the thinking of the human being a hundred years is a long time. Hundred years ago we didn't have cars, airplanes, computers or vaccines. It was a whole different world, but to the earth, a hundred years is nothing. A million years is nothing. This planet lives and breathes on a much vaster scale. We can't imagine its slow and powerful rhythms, and we haven't got the humility to try. We've been residents here for the blink of an eye. If we're gone tomorrow, the earth will not miss us.
I am starting to wonder if he isn’t helping the other side more than his own bank account at this point.
The only screeching halt will be the momentary pause to grab torches and pitchforks and run Gore out of town.

The odds of the USA going bankrupt from socialism by the year 2100 are a near certainly, as are the odds of Al Gore being a humorous footnote in history.
This never used to bother me. Owlgore is a fool. What really bothered me is that that he won the Nobel Peace Prize over Irena Sendler. The women that put her life at risk day after day for years, helping to save 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto during the Second World War.
If there’s any justice here, it’s that she won’t have her name associated with other “winners” like Carter and Arafat.
Its a mystery to me why this man has any credibility with anyone. Thank G-d he never became President.

Because if "civilization fails" it is weak fools like him and his ilk that will be among the first to die. They have no survival skills. His money will mean nothing, his bodyguards and servants will desert him, his limousines and jets will be little more then rusting useless lumps of metal without fuel and parts, his gold and other precious metals will be taken from him if he can not defend them.
He and his family will not know how to survive without all that civilization provides. Yup, I can see ol' Al out there ripping up his manicured lawns at his mansion trying to grow food, chopping down his trees for firewood and trying to defend his family, property and crops with a gun.
