Calif. lesbian mom gets deportation reprieve

By LISA LEFF Associated Press Writer Apr. 23, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO -- A Philippines-born lesbian mother who was ordered to leave the country next month for overstaying her visa will likely be allowed to stay through next year due to Sen. Dianne Feinstein's intervention in the case.

Feinstein introduced an emergency immigration bill late Wednesday on behalf of Shirley Tan, who lives in Pacifica with her 12-year-old twin sons and partner of 23 years.

Feinstein spokeswoman Clare Bowyer says Tan can't be deported unless Congress votes down the legislation or it is allowed to expire without being reintroduced.

Gay rights advocates aggressively lobbied Feinstein to take up the 43-year-old Tan's cause, noting that if her partner, Jay Mercado, 48, were a man, the couple would be able to marry and Mercado - as a naturalized citizen - could sponsor Tan for residency.

"I believe her removal from the U.S. would cause undue hardship for her and her family," Feinstein said in introducing the special bill.

"Without this legislation, this family will be separated, or they will be relocated to a third country where Ms. Tan's safety and her children's well-being may be at risk."

this family will be separated

There is no family to be separated.

There is a couple of women living together and subjecting a couple of 12 year old boys to the sick lesbian life death style..

Give her a break. Feinstein had to do something to distract attention from stories concerning her steering TARP funds to her husband’s companies.

> The Rev. Herbert W. Chilstrom, the first presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), endorsed two documents from the Task Force on ELCA Studies on Sexuality... “Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust,” a proposed social statement for the church. It also released that day a report and recommendation for a process to consider changes to ministry policies that could make it possible for Lutherans in committed same-gender relationships to serve as ELCA associates in ministry, deaconesses, diaconal ministers and ordained ministers.

“gay rights advocates aggressively lobbied Feinstein “

I don’t care how these folks want to live, but they’ve got way too many extremists and way too much power for their numbers.

The bigger story in this is that Feinstein/Boxer and others want UAFA legislation to pass. Seems to me, according to this bill...ANY/ALL illegal aliens willing to lie about being the “permanent partner” of a US citizen would qualify.

Uniting American Families Act of 2009
To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate discrimination in the immigration laws by permitting permanent partners of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents to obtain lawful permanent resident status in the same manner as spouses of citizens and lawful permanent residents and to penalize immigration fraud in connection with permanent partnerships.

Since its likely going to pass with the 60 vote Democratic Party majority plus the 2 Maine RINO how about we add an amendment to state you can only sponsor 1 permanent partner per 15 years, so we do not use this law as a loophole to smuggle illegals.
