The Danger Of An Israeli Strike On Iran
YAHOO! ^ | April 24, 2009 | By Walt Rodgers

Posted on 04/25/2009 3:18:27 AM PDT by Fennie

The new Israeli prime minister recently appeared to give President Obama a blunt ultimatum: Stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons - or we will.

Benjamin Netanyahu's challenge smacks of unrealistic bravado and, worse, it appears to be a crude attempt to bully an American President into bombing Iran's nuclear installations.

The consequences of a unilateral Israeli strike would be enormous if not disastrous. Mr. Obama cannot allow himself to be intimidated by Mr. Netanyahu, nor can he wink if the Israeli air force bombs Iran's nuclear facilities.

Israel certainly has my blessing to bomb Iran back to bows and arrows.

I think Israel would prefer to have U.S. blessing, but the U.S. is increasingly seeking openings with former enemies — even to the point of tolerating diplomatic insults, and proving itself an unreliable ally to former friends. Israel might decide it will never have a better advantage in the correlation of forces, and that a nuclear-capable Iran would be a real threat...

I agree that a nuclear armed Iran would be a real threat to Israels future existence. But this does not change the simple fact that without (at least US blessing) there is little they can do about this. Israel does not border Iran so their planes would have to use Iraqi airspace just to get there. So if US/Iraq deny them overflight. then what?
Do it anyway? Let alone the fact that an attack on Iran would be an official act of war against a “peacefull” nation under international law (so Iran would have every right to retaliate in any form they want). It would be suicide to attack Iran without US help. Israel has a very powerfull military for its size, true. But Iran is a Big and powerfull enemy. So this would not be a cakewalk. There for i guess nothing will happen as long as the US is not willing to help Israel.

It is going to take one thing to be said by Iran’s little POS. That one thing will be that live nukes are assembled and on the launch pads and, statements such as: we launch tomorrow, or, Israel’s end has come as of ??/??/????.
This will be enough for Bibi to take action. The u.S., under Ruler Obama, will never give blessings for any action by Israel.
So, Israel will go it alone, be condemned by the Dis-United Nations, be pelted with resolution after resolution and, WWIV will most likely start.
There. All solved.
Oh yea. And as prophesied, God will protect them.

Flying over other countries without their permission has never stopped Israel in the past. Besides once Iran reacts and lobs a missile at one of our aircraft carriers it’s game on. Obozo’s weak-kneed diplomacy has encouraged the Iranians. The NAVY will defend itself. Obozo’s approval numbers will plummet if he criticizes a commanding officer who takes action.

The actions by the SEALS which terminated the standoff with the pirates and Obozo’s pussy-footed diplomacy was noted throughout the service. As for an act of war, Israel smacked Iraq and much more recently Syria. Now that Iran is getting near to fuel load at Bushier, Israel doesn’t have much choice but to pull the trigger. If Iran was interested in negotiating, they’d stop.

I thought the Muslims wanted a “ Palestinian state “. Would they want it to be radioactive? That would be counterproductive. Is Iran not on board with the Palestinian state issue? If not, don’t their Muslim “ brothers” have enough pull to keep them quiet?

Yes but current Iran is not Iraq of the 80s anymore nor is it powerless like syria. as i said Israel would need US blessing this time without this an attack on Iran is just impossible for them. And as the politics look today US government has no interest in beeing pulled in another war (this would happen if Israel would attack Iran). So the US will never allow Israels air force to cross Iraqi airspace because of the simple fact if they do it would be the same result as the US would have attacked Iran. You would be involved in another war because Iran would retaliate against Israel via the same route. and i don´t think the US would watch Iranian ballistic missiles fying over their heads enroute to Israel. So once the US allows them overflight to bomb Iran it´s only a matter of time untill “Israel brought” you another war. and if the US would be so eager to attack Iran they would have done this long ago. But it had not happend. So i don´t think US government would allow Israel to drag your military in a war “you” don´t wanna fight right now.

Netanyahu will soon figure out that he can't reason with a know-it-all. He's on his own to stop Iran and he just needs to tell Obama to screw off.

I keep wondering - When will the collective “rest of the world” finally admit we are all in a war against Islam?

Everyone runs from saying it, but nothing could be closer to the truth. The so called moderates are nothing but silently approving extremists. They are winning and will continue to do so because they are driven by unwavering faith in a faulty prophet. There is no negotiation in such a conflict and the only time anyone can declare a victory is when the other side is completely eradicated. Given the current course of world events we will eventually be overrun by hordes of barbarians who want to live in the past.

Worst part about it now..they have a cheerleader in the White House voted in by a dumbed-down electorate who are not going to get the “Change” they expected.

They'll wait until either the Taliban takes over Pakistan and/or after Iran nukes Israel.

You’re missing the point. The US will not officially allow an Israeli over flight. Israel will do it anyway. The Iranians by taking the steps leading up to actual fuel load have guaranteed the destruction of Busheir. An Iranian response that involves an attack on US miltary assets will immediately rally America behind military action. 9/11 produced the largest outpouring of American patriotism since WWII.

Obama needs an Iranian conflict to distract Americans from the economic meltdown.

“Israel would be bombing until the Shah comes home to merely delay what is an unstoppable Iranian nuclear program.”

Saddam Hussein once had an "unstopable nuclear program".

In the Big Picture of how History will turn out 30 years from now, a nuclear armed, radical Islamist Iran will have devastating consequences to Western Civilization but liberals do not have the will to fight even for their own survival.

Once Iran has the capability to lob a nuclear-tipped missile at Washington, New York City and other major U.S. cities, it will be mostly liberals that will be incinerated in such a strike.

well i dissagree on this point. As i said regardless if the US would official allow this or just watch it while it happens (no one would believe that the US doesn´t notice Israeli planes flying over Iraq) the result would be the same. US would be pulled in a war against Iran. And i can not see the will of the US government to fight a war against Iran right now. So i don´t think they would let this happen. So the US would only have a view options. intercept Israeli planes and turn them back, or prepare for another war (in times of a recession, afghanistan, iraq... not likely). btw. it would be stupid in military way to let a forreign country (in this case Israel) deside the time when you have to fight a war. If the US would wanna fight Iran they would do this on their own (and more important at a moment “you” deside not others). And i can see no political will of your current Administration to fight Iran right now.

The question that comes to mind frequently is: what are they waiting for? It’s possible that whatever they WERE waiting for, the Israelis now have missed the bus.

The question that used to frequently come to my mind for month after month after month was, "Why is George W. Bush just sitting there at the bus stop and not getting on any bus?"

He (Bibi) also knows that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's threat to wipe Israel off the map is bombast.

Oh, really?? Iran and other muslim dominated countries have NO intentions of destroying God's people in order to take over the Holy Land completely??? Ahmagonnahaveajihad and his puppetmasters are just blowing steam in Israel's direction?? Uh, huh. The PA/Hamas/Hezbollah are just palling around with the Jewish people every time they lob a rocket over the boundaries that have been nibbling away at Israel's sovereignty for over 50 years too!

Do you really believe the military cares what the world thinks if it doesn’t officially notice the Israeli over flight? You’re forgetting that Obozo intends to cut military programs. There’s nothing like a war to increase miltary spending and distract Americans from their day to day problems. The American military has every thing to gain by Israel attacking Iran.
