Bill stirs battle – over dogs, or meat?
The Charlotte Observer ^ | Apr. 25, 2009 | Mark Johnson

RALEIGH North Carolina's meat industries are battling a bill the Humane Society of the United States and its vegan president say is meant to protect puppies, warning instead that it is the first step toward ending meat eating as we know it.

The Humane Society has made North Carolina a top priority in the fight for tougher animal welfare laws, for the first time deploying a lobbyist to work a full session of the state legislature.

Agribusiness groups predict a repeat of the tighter farm animal laws that California approved last year in a Humane Society-backed voter referendum. That measure included a requirement that egg-laying hens live in an area big enough for them to extend their wings, a mandate that opponents said was so cost prohibitive it would drive egg producers out of business.

“The public is very unaware that the Humane Society of the United States has a very direct agenda to eliminate the use of animals for food,” said Kay Johnson, executive vice president of the Animal Agriculture Alliance, a livestock industry-supported group based in Washington. “Nobody would have steak, hamburger, eggs – everyone would have a vegan diet.”

I heard Rush Limbaugh doing a commercial for the Humane Society. What's up with that?

We just took possession of 430 pounds of black angus steer.....grass fed locally. YUM! And the chickens will be giving us eggs in a month or so.

It feels nice to be somewhat self-sufficient. Big veggie plot ready to plant.

“I heard Rush Limbaugh doing a commercial for the Humane Society. What’s up with that?”

I haven’t seen the commercial but suspect that any endorsement he gives is in regard to the local shelters, I know he has talked about their misconduct (one being the disposition of animals) and don’t believe he supports many of their tactics.

The Humane Society of the United States is a code name for PETA. This is a completely different organization that the Humane Society, which actually cares about pets and animals.

“I heard Rush Limbaugh doing a commercial for the Humane Society. What’s up with that?”

Rush has gone to the dark side and is supporting HSUS.

My hope is that he was fooled and doesn’t understand exactly what he is supporting.

Click the links to hear his ads supporting them.

A child must have red-meat protein or they’ll grow up to be an idiot. I suspect that PETA and the vegans are well aware of that. Guess they can still get into Harvard if the tuition is free.

Not only is HSUS trying to ruin agriculture, it is also misleading the public into donating money to them at the expense of the good people who run our nation’s animal shelters. HSUS is in no way affiliated with local animal shelters, including those called “Humane Societies.” Thousands of people have donated money to HSUS believing they help stray animals find homes, but they do no such thing. When animal shelters ask for financial assistance from HSUS, they turn a deaf ear. “see link “

The Humane Society of the United States is like the Sierra Club, and (to some extent) the Audubon Society as well as many others. Their current agenda has little to do with their original charter and their arguments are simply a pretext to advance their radical agenda.

If these pasty-faced, tree hugging vegans want to eat whatever weird diet they have and deprive themselves of certain tasty things, that's fine.

But stop trying to inflict that crap on the rest of us.

Despite the words “humane society” on its letterhead, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is not affiliated with your local animal shelter. Despite the omnipresent dogs and cats in its fundraising materials, it’s not an organization that runs spay/neuter programs or takes in stray, neglected, and abused pets. And despite the common image of animal protection agencies as cash-strapped organizations dedicated to animal welfare, HSUS has become the wealthiest animal rights organization on earth.

HSUS is big, rich, and powerful, a “humane society” in name only. And while most local animal shelters are under-funded and unsung, HSUS has accumulated $113 million in assets and built a recognizable brand by capitalizing on the confusion its very name provokes. This misdirection results in an irony of which most animal lovers are unaware: HSUS raises enough money to finance animal shelters in every single state, with money to spare, yet it doesn’t operate a single one anywhere.

Instead, HSUS spends millions on programs that seek to economically cripple meat and dairy producers; eliminate the use of animals in biomedical research labs; phase out pet breeding, zoos, and circus animal acts; and demonize hunters as crazed lunatics. HSUS spends $2 million each year on travel expenses alone, just keeping its multi-national agenda going.

You need to send that information to Rush, and post it on the daily Rush threads.

I have a hard time believing that Rush understands exactly the group he supports.

Their expertise is in raising money from an unsuspecting public and lobbying against our rights to have animals. “Better dead than bred”.

I wait for the day when one of these emaciated, pasty faced vegans cross my path and decide to protest. I’ll take a lot of nonsense but if you get between me and my steaks and ribs, I will brutalize you.
