“The usual strains of flu kill over 30,000 Americans every year.”

Bingo. Most the hype is MSM driven due to the virus arriving in a nontraditional month. Caution is warranted but panic serves no one. On a side note the speculative pharma stocks are very active

“Somehow 36,000 people dieing EVERY YEAR is not an epidemic but a few people dieing of “Swine Flu,” which is still a flu related sickness, is.”

Yea, I’ve been wondering the same thing.

The same old fear mongering of the 70s. They spent 1.5 million on shots, and by the time the flu was gone, people had suffered the usual vacine syndromes and the lawsuits resulted in BILLIONS.

Is there anyway to get these folks at the CDC and WHO to STOP calling this ‘Swine Flu’.

We ALREADY HAVE ‘SWINE FLU’. This is a NEW VIRUS that contains 3 different markers for 3 different swine flus, N. American AVIAN flu, AND Human Flu Strain “A”.

I even saw a post here at FR from someone who grew up on a farm dismissing this whole thing because they had “old fashioned swine flu” as a kid, and thought nothing of this...

I’m not suggesting panic, but for Gosh Sakes — they need to STOP calling it SWINE FLU — It’s NOT ‘Swine Flu’!!!!!!!

ARGHHHH! (LOL)

Suggested names for this virus:
1. Mexican Swine Flu
2. Chimera Flu (3 pigs, a bird, and a human... LOL)
3. Mexiflu
4. ManBirdPig Flu

Granted some of the suggestions above are probably too humorous to use in describing what is a real threat. But, does anyone else feel as I do that calling it swine flu UNDER-represents the threat of this new flu especially in rural areas where REGULAR swine flu (that CAN’T be transmitted from human to human) is a normal part of life?

....and I DO NOT TRUST THIS GOVERNMENT.

Hey, me neither.

But at this point the Obama admin scares me more than the flu. Remember 1976 :)

I think it should be discussed about the possibility of having to shut down an international gathering place of tens of thousands of tourists daily that will afterwords return to their homes all across the world, it would be the perfect place to spread a slow moving contact disease.

Did you read the thread about 2 suspected deaths in CA that are still being investigated? The next few days will tell the tale...if we’re dealing with a pandemic we should start to see cases increaing exponentially in the next week I’d say. I’m not panicking or anything but I’m not going to be in any crowds for the next couple of weeks either.

Our spring break is the first week of March and we had plenty of kids from our high school head down to Mexico. Our oldest is a freshman, an athlete, and has plenty of contact with the upperclassmen with track practice and other sports-related events. He has had some sort of cold since then - runny nose, then stuffy nose, tight chest, LOTS of phlegm, then last weekend ran a fever of 103.5º and didn’t get out of bed for a full day. He has NEVER had a virus like this in his life. I took him to the dr on Sunday, they ran a strep test and a mono test. Strep culture the following day came back positive (mono was neg.) but he doesn’t feel like he has had strep at all. Keep in mind, this is a kid who gets strep at least once a year. The whole house has had some sort of a cold/flu virus since this, but it hit him the hardest.

While we were at the dr, I asked if they were testing patients with flu-like symptoms for Mexican swine flu and her answer was, “Not really.” ??? Her first questions for my son were, “Are any of your friends sick? Girlfriend?” And, “Have any of your friends been on vacation recently?”

The difference betweem the swine flu situation in the 70s and this is night and day.

There, the gov’t predicted the outbreak, developed the vaccine, and the outbreak never occurred.

Here, it has occurred, is killing people, and there is no vaccine.

I can see the difference, and I’m disappointed that you cannot.
