Do you rememer the 1972 Democratic Convention?

Posted on 04/28/2009 8:45:38 PM PDT by cradle of freedom

Do you remember the 1972 Democratic Convention? This was the convention which put abortion on the party's platform. I watched this on tv. I also remember a Democrat Convention which could have been 1972 or maybe 1976, this time they put gay rights on the party platform. I wish someone in the Republican Party could find these archives and show the whole country how the Democratic Party accepted these extreme views and officially put it on their party platform. It appears that there are too many naive Democratic voters who have never heard of this and are under the illusion that only a few extreme liberals support these things. They should see with their own eyes, the Democrat leaders announcing their support of abortion and the gay agenda. Then maybe some of them will understand that this radicalism comes from the top down and is the official position of the Democrat Party. You can't tell that to some Democrats.

At around this time, there was a move in the Republican Convention to put a pro-abortion plank in the party platform. There was a Republican woman who was leading the effort. The pro-aborts lost and the Republican Party DID NOT put abortion on the party platform. I am very proud of the Republican Party for doing this.

If anyone can find video of these Democrat Conventions, could you please get this out to the people.

1972 was the turning point for the Democratic party. Its when the left wing kooks took over the party and pushed aside more moderate Democrats, some of whom later became Reagan Democrats.

I remember watching the ‘72 Democratic convention, although I don’t remember the abortion issue coming up. The convention was zoo with hard left wingers fighting over delegate credentials with more establishment Democrats. McGovern made his victory speech at two o’clock in the morning when no one was watching TV. That convention was one of the reasons Nixon won the election.

McGovern would probably beat Richard Nixon in THIS day and age.

I can’t get youtube to work, I am having a problem with the flash player. I see several youtube presentations of those conventions, but I cannot get the flash player to work. Could someone check out some of these and report what you see?

I am really serious about the GOP using these 1972 or 1976 videos because the Democrats have been playing a double game with the voters. They put on a mask of moderation during their campaigns but they make all kinds of far left deals behind the scenes. People need to be reminded of the way the Democrats have veered to the far left.

My guess is that reminding the voters what the Democrats did 40 years ago will not help the GOP win the White House in 2012.

I don’t know, I think this would play in more conservative areas especially if a Republican is running against a “Blue Dog” Democrat posing as a middle-of-the-road American. This would put doubt in people’s minds about whether the “Blue Dog” Democrat is as conservative as he appears to be.

If you look at the Democrats, they look no different than the Republicans. There is nothing in their outward appearance that makes them look radical or crazy. They don’t have metal in their faces, or tatoos from head to toe. They do not dress in a bizarre manner. They don’t look like bikers, or hippies or freaks but they support a lot of wieird stuff. They put on a facade of normalcy for the voters but they are really nutty in their views.

That is just it - there are no more moderate Democrats. The farleft won the fight. They dictate everything and the faux moderates just go along. They will never challenge what the far left wants. One of the most sickening displays of this is the way that Jack Murtha sold out the Haditha Marines in order to placate the Code Pink communists. Dick Durban calling the Guantanamo guards Nazis is another example of this double game that the Democrats play. And the worst thing is that they make a political game out of our national defense.

Yeah, but Specter jumped ship because the republicans are too “far right”. It’s the dems who went over the edge in ‘72 and haven’t looked back.

The vast majority of “moderate democrats” are dead, members of much saner generations of years past.
