Reeling congressional Republicans today launched a new effort days after their latest setback -- the defection of Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, putting Democrats within reach of potentially being able to push legislation through the Senate without a single Republican vote.
House GOP Whip Eric Cantor announced that the National Council for a New America will hold its first event on Saturday with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who ran last year and could run again in 2012; Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, another possible 2012 contender; former Governor Jeb Bush, the former president's brother; and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, a former national GOP chairman.
The council appears a way to rebut Democratic portrayals of the GOP as the "party of no" by pulling together a cohesive policy strategy by the opposition.

If you had, you would see 2 years worth of my anti-Mitt comments. I was a Fred and Duncan supporter in the primaries. Not a Mitt fan at all, though I voted for him in the CA primary because Fred was out and I loathe McCain. I see that you also voted for Mitt in the primary for the same reason (I actually checked your background before commenting).
Anyway, if you do bother to check you will see that I was one of Sarah’s biggest supporters.
But I don’t expect you will. It would take effort and require you to think, which you clearly don’t have time for.
I think the new meaning of RINO should be any “Republican Interested in No Obama.”

How about we show her some respect and point out the areas where she could improve?
Cantor hasn’t been acting like a conservative for months. A few involved MAY be conservative but do you really believe they are setting the agenda for this group? I don’t. No more than I believe they set the agenda for the Party. Let them prove me wrong but anything McCain has a prominent role in I’ll disregard.

Mitt Romney has been running a PAC to help congressional candidates. If you check it out, it supports selected and needy CONSERVATIVE Republican candidates. The evidence shows that Romney wants to build up the Conservative base of elected office-holders. He is taking action where others are just talking, and most of the talking is complaining.
Jindal is a fine, principled governor. Barbour is an outstanding governor in Mississippi, truly presidential material in his administrative ability.
I say, if you don’t like these guys, then form another group, and another, and another, and let’s all work for a restoration of America’s freedom and America’s Constitution. If there were 100 or 1000 groups working toward the right goals, I would be happy.
As for McCain, he has been outspoken in opposing many of the insanities of the Obama movement. Give him some credit. He is no Spector, and no Chafee.
And Jeb Bush is the best of the Bush clan. On only two issues do I fault him: immigration, and offshore drilling — but otherwise, he is much better than the current FL governor. If he only had a different surname! Maybe he could adopt an anagram, like Jesh Bub.

The RINO Romney thing is getting a big old. The guy could have completely sold out after he didn’t get the nomination last time, but he hasn’t. He’s been rock solid in his criticisms of Obama and the liberals in Congress.
McCain I clearly get. The Romney stuff seems a bit out there to me.
By the way, in the primaries I liked best Duncan Hunter, but he dropped out before the primaries ever got around to NJ; and here I supported Romney over McCain. By then, the outcome was virtually decided.
And naturally I supported McCain over Obama. You make the best realistic choice you have. Can I help it if much of the rest of the country is crazy?
In general, my favorite candidates in the Republican Primary garner about 6%, and then drop out.

We haven’t had a leader who can articulate conservative positions like this is decades.
Sorry, I’ve watched Romney for some time after the election, and he’s been by far the most upfront, articulate, and strong voice on conservative positions next to Mark Sanford and Jim DeMint.
perhaps he was just not thinking and will apologize for mixing with Mitt...
