Celebrated since 1985 the first Monday through Sunday in May, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) is a time set aside to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees and ensure that our government is the best in the world. Throughout the nation and around the world, public employees use the week to educate citizens about the work that they do and why they have chosen public service careers, as well as the many ways government services make life better for all of us.
National Mall Celebration
The capstone celebration is held every year on the National Mall, with more than 100 government offices and agencies, nonprofit organizations and private companies sponsoring interactive and educational exhibits that showcase the innovative and quality work performed by public employees. This year, the Partnership and the Public Employees Roundtable will host the National Mall event May 7-10, 2009 between 4th and 7th Sts.
This years theme is Government Goes Green. The Mall event will feature new large-scale exhibits showcasing how government agencies are working to have a positive impact on the globe through environmentally friendly practices and energy efficient initiatives.
During the four-day celebration, attendees will see government programs in action. Kids can meet NASA astronauts, climb aboard an F-16 fighter, or take home free educational buttons, coloring posters and maps and puzzles. Adults can search online for jobs, check their credit report, receive free health screenings and learn about emergency preparedness.
We hope youll be able to join the celebration!
The so-called “public service” sector needs to experience some consolidation and downsizing like the rest of us.
I'm sorry...but I can't take this very seriously, as I'm am certain that this entire "green movement" is about as genuine as "Kwanzaa".
Isn't it traditional for "servants" to make a lot less money than those they serve?
A whole week for the feather merchants.
Just one day for veterans.
