First Lady Michelle Obama steps out in Lanvin sneakers and they're only $540!
New York Daily News ^ | May 1, 2009 | Amy Diluna

Michelle Obama has taken casual to a haute new level.

While volunteering Wednesday at a D.C. food bank, the First Lady sported her usual J.Crew cardigan, a pair of utilitarian capri pants and, on her feet, a sneaky splurge: trainers that go for $540.

That's right: These sneakers - suede, with grosgrain ribbon laces and metallic pink toe caps - are made by French design house Lanvin, one of fashion's hottest labels. They come in denim and satin versions, and have been a brisk seller all spring.

They're out of stock at posh Meatpacking District boutique Jeffrey, and Barneys New York boasts a limited selection of the sneaks, which are a cult favorite among fashionistas.

Other celebrity fans of Lanvin's costly kicks include Ellen DeGeneres and Kanye West, who has blogged about his faves.

As the family's primary dog walker, Michelle clearly requires comfortable footwear.

"I got up at 5:15 in the morning to walk my puppy," she joked Thursday. "That's how my day starts. Even though the kids are supposed to do a lot of the work, I'm still up at 5:15 a.m. taking my dog out."

She'll be trodding on New York's sidewalks Tuesday for the first time as First Lady. Michelle will meet with staff at the U.S. mission to the United Nations. Later, she headlines Time magazine's "100 most influential people" gala.

It's not for you to tell me what I should get upset about. That's not a conservative thing to do. That's a busy-body thing to do. Busy-bodiness has always been the realm of the left.

Excuse me, but my husband is an accountant. Those sneakers are a business expense. He's sees these things every day. You, I, and everyone else here WILL pay for those sneakers, and everything else the Obomas buy. Thar IS our business. The Obomas don't have to pay for anything as long as they "pretend" to be doing "the peoples business."

WE pay for every hair cut. WE pay for every joy ride. WE pay for everything they do - as long as they pretend to be doing it on our behalf.

It's the hypocrisy. They lecture all of us on our “careless” spending. I'd say paying $540 for the latest fashion trend pair of sneakers to be careless spending, especially while her and her husband say I need to give them more money. I say the same about her full time hair dresser and make up artist.

Again, a fine example of how the elite dine on caviar and kobe beef at their dachas while the proletariat queue up by the hundreds for a half pound of sausage and a stale loaf of bread.

We’re all going to have to learn to do with less, except for the “more equal” pigs which brings me to the old saw of lipstick on a pig. You can put $450 sneakers on a pig but it is still a pig.

but those ugly-assed shoes are about $525 overpriced.

Not only that, but they suggest a serious lack of common sense on her part.

Again, this has nothing to do with envy, it has to do with THEM telling us what to wear, what to drive, what to eat, what the temp in your house should be, how to raise your kids, how much money we should have, on and on and on.

LOL!

Ok, ok. I relent. Lets strike a blow for freedom here! Down with the shoes! Down with ugly shoes! I call for an immediate price ceiling on shoes that wives of democratic politicians can wear! That ought to show 'em we mean business!

It’s realy sad when articles like this are written for reaction rather than content.

Uh, yeah. That's how it works.

They get their money from the taxpayer. They get elected they get paid. Bush got elected, Bush got paid. If Palin were to get elected one day she would get paid. Hello.

If they want to spend their money on shoes- not my affair. Obama spends his on cigarettes doesn't he? Is that allowed? Hey if this what gets you excited, more power to you. I just think it's stupid. Americans created this system. Like the old saying goes 'I've made my bed, I have to lie in it now...' This isn't news. It's always been like this.

BTW, I like the 'my husband's an accountant' line too. I used to like to tell people 'my wife's a doctor' which is sort of like that old commercial 'I'm not a doctor, but I play one on tv...'. Which I think ultimately derives from 'My daddy can whip yours'.

So sorry you missed the actual point, hypocrisy and meaning of the entire event as well as my post.

I don’t think I’ve missed the point. Not at all.

On another thread General Petraeus says we have 2 weeks to save Pakistan from being overrun by the Taliban. Now THAT is a serious issue and I can understand people getting worked up about it. You know, it has less than 3 dozen replies.

This thread already has over a hundred.

I’m not missing the point.

Taliban with nukes- of mild importance.

First Lady with sneakers- of utmost importance.

I got it, believe me, I got it.

.

What about all the lectures about ‘sacrifice’ and belt-tightening? The Commander-in-Thief needs to clue the First Sow in about that.
Look at the economic mess the nation’s in; you would think this is a monarchy.
But then I guess that’s ghetto trash for you.

Apparently, you haven't much experience with business tax law. Their wages are one thing, and business expenses are another.
Business expenses are charged to the business. In this case, the tax payers. They (they're suppose to, anyway) work for us. That makes us the business. They're using our charge card. Get it?

They're using our charge card. Get it?

And this is a recent development I take it? It wasn't like this with the previous presidents?

I do not care about Michelle Obama's shoes.

When I was little, a common thing you would have heard me say would have been 'Gosh, he sho do get mad when we poke at him through the cage with this yere stick don't he?'

This is good fun to me. Down with the evil shoes! I love it. This is like a comedy sketch. Maybe we can organise a march or something...

Apparently, you haven't much experience with business tax law.

LOL, as a matter of fact, I don't. My old daddy was always telling me- 'Boy, you better get interested in business tax law- one day you're going to need it'. I never listened to him. Man... I should have. I've got my priorities all messed up (and if you can't find something witty to say with that you aint trying very hard).

I'm going to get serious about these shoes. I promise. The fate of the free world is in the balance.

Why are you bothering to read this thread???

Because I feel like it. Simple as that. I was scouting around for entertainment. I came across this thread. Looked like a big pile of dung so I jumped in with both feet to see how big of a splash I could make. Yeeha!

Why are you? You don't like Michelle's shoes either? I'm with you- I don't like 'em. I wouldn't wear 'em myself. Probably wouldn't have bought that particular pair.

I guess where I'm different is I don't think it's a big deal. But I see that people here do. Maybe I should just leave you all to it?

Of course, this is sarcasm. I just find it silly that people are getting worked up over shoes when there are some no sh!t serious things happening out there. It's bizarre is all. It's like professional wrestling. Whole world going to hell in a henbasket and freepers are reduced to condemning Michelle Obama's shoes.

This is what politics does to people.
