VIDEO: You swine! Mexican defender spits and sneezes on opponent after flu jibes get up his nose
The Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | May 1, 2009 | Ashely Gray

A Mexican defender caused outrage by coughing and spitting in the face of a Chilean opponent after growing tired of swine flu jibes.

Chivas' Hector Reynoso also emptied his nose on Sebastian Penco after allegedly being called a leper by the Everton Vina del Mar forward.

The Mexicans were in Chile for a tie in the Copa Libertadores - Latin America's equivalent of the Champions League - and had reported discrimination from locals when they went out shopping in the run-up to the match.

Reynoso, 28, said: 'In the market place, people got out of our way, covered their mouths and ridiculed us. They laughed at us a little but in the end we knew that sort of situation was possible. But we came here to play football.

'You turn the television on and all you hear about is the flu, and Mexico is mentioned a lot.

'It's almost like a type of discrimination and even to an extent sort of like racism.

'I think it was because of some misinformation as well as too much information about the matter.'

Disgusting. If the player who was the recipient of this "sportsmanship" becomes sick or worse, will anything be done to the Mexican aggressor?

Doubtful, since suggesting that any relationship between Mexicans and the flu has now been branded as "racist".

flu jibes get up his nose

Those tickle and make you sneeze....... The best way to prevent them is by inserting those spongy ear plugs in your nostrils.

Agreed :-)

I have a recollection about something, and if I'm wrong I hope that someone will be so kind as to correct me.  My understanding is that currently all airlines have a 'closed' ventilation system, in that it continuously recirculates the used air (and any germs therein) throughout the plane again and again.  I understand that this is done because it's cheaper than allowing a fresh-air ventilation system, which apparently was the norm before the smoking ban on aircraft went into effect.  Without visible cigarette smoke, there's less incentive to provide fresh air, it seems.

Y'know ..... I think I'm beginning to see a picture.

It's not the religion or race or nationality that "get's away with it" ..... it's the method and intensity of aggression that gets a pass.

And when you redefine anything at all as 'racism', then any response to it, regardless of how utterly disgusting, depraved, violent, or heinous it is, is given a pass as well

coming soon to a U.S. Stadium near you:

Atlanta, San Diego next stops for Mexican national team tour games in June

Tickets starting at $25 on sale to the general public on Cinco de Mayo

April 23, 2009

NEW YORK — Soccer United Marketing (SUM), together with the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), today announced the Mexican national team will play in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday, June 24 at the Georgia Dome against South American rival Venezuela at 7:30 p.m. local before traveling to San Diego, Calif., to take on Guatemala days later at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday, June 28 at 5:00 p.m. local.

The matches represent the third and fourth matches of the Mexican squad’s 2009 U.S. tour, and the first in the states under the new leadership of Javier Aguirre, former Atlético de Madrid manager who led Mexico to the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Following the match in San Diego this June “el Tri” will continue on to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and begin its quest for the title on July 5 in Oakland against Nicaragua.

Visa® is pleased to offer all Visa cardholders access to a private advance ticket sale for both June matches with tickets beginning as low as $25. The private sale starts Thursday, April 23, at 10 a.m. local at www.Ticketmaster.com. Visa will be the only payment method accepted through the Visa presale and is the preferred card of the Federacion Mexicana de Futbol.

Tickets to both games will go on sale for the general public Tuesday, May 5 to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the Battle of Puebla. Tickets can be purchased at www.Ticketmaster.com and by calling 1-800-745-3000. The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol invites you to use your Visa card.

The match on June 24, brought to you by AT&T, will be a historic one for El Tri as it will mark Mexico’s first match in Atlanta. While Mexico’s Under-23 team did take part in the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, its four soccer matches were all held in venues in other states, including neighboring Birmingham, Al. Venezuela and Mexico will meet for the ninth time with Mexico victorious in the previous eight matches. The Venezuelan team is led by RCD Mallorca midfielder Juan Arango, Atlante forward Giancarlo Maldonado and New York Red Bulls midfielder Jorge Rojas.

On the other hand, Mexico is no stranger to San Diego having played twice in the last two years in the Southern California soccer hotbed in front of sold-out crowds at Qualcomm Stadium. On February 27, 2007 Mexico defeated Venezuela 3-1 in front of 63,328 fans before falling to Argentina last year on June 4 in front of 68,498 fans. México and Guatemala have played each other a total of 27 times with Mexico leading the all-time series 17-4-6. Guatemala is lead by Chicago Fire midfielder Marco Pappa and former MLS star Carlos Ruíz who now plies his trade for Olimpia of Paraguay.

The games will mark the U.S. debut of Mexican national team head coach Javier “el Vasco” Aguirre since his return to the bench this past April. Aguirre, who coached the team to the round of 16 in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, comes from a successful five-year stint in Spain where he recently led Atlético de Madrid to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in more than 10 years.

Mexico is currently in the middle of the Final Round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying and has a 1-2-0 record following the first three matches. Prior to its late June matches in the United States, Mexico will travel to play El Salvador on June 6 before hosting Trinidad and Tobago on June 10 in World Cup qualifiers.

For both matches fans are recommended to arrive to the stadium grounds early and enjoy the popular Futbol Fiesta, the interactive fan zone prior to each game that spans more than 100,000 square feet. Futbol Fiesta includes live music and offers promotional items from the FMF’s U.S. sponsors - adidas, Allstate, AT&T, Bud Light, Chase, Coca-Cola, Jose Cuervo, Makita, McDonald’s, NAPA, The Home Depot and Visa.

My neighbors are both airline captians, he is with American and she is with Southwest. They’re both getting concerned about the air quality on the planes. Says they are “petri dishes with wings.”

I don’t know but if you find out, please ping me. My son is flying to San Diego next week. I don’t want him to go. my guess would be that some airlines pump in fresh air and others don’t.

Isn’t it interesting though that after VP Biden’s statements yesterday, Obama got pulled around by his nose by the airline industry lobby and started back pedaling.

So much for not being in the pocket of lobbyists... (eye roll)

And mr Reynoso isn't lying in a hospital bed recovering from a severe ass kicking, why?

Although I don't follow soccer, my guess is that any physical violence on the field will get one or both of them suspended from the game at the least.  This being an important Cup match, I'm sure that nobody wants to be kicked out of this game in particular.

That being said, since we now know that body fluids can transmit a wide variety of pathogens, some of them lethal, I would consider intentionally spitting in someone's face as well as blowing out your nose onto them with the express intent of transferring a disease to be a violent act with far worse potential outcomes than a typical fistfight.  If I were to be a referee at an event like that I would not only kick him out of the game but out of the sport permanently as well as encouraging the other player to press charges for assault at minimum.  But, I am not  politically-correct and so I will most likely never be wearing a referee's uniform  :-)
