Obama's Car Team Looks like an Edsel
The American Thinker ^ | May 05, 2009 | Ed Lasky

America has a former New York Times journalist, Steven Rattner, as our auto czar, a man with zero auto industry expertise. And it shows.

To be completely fair to Rattner, he did leave journalism for investment banking, and went on to run a private investment firm, but he has no actual experience in the auto industry. Even worse his firm is now mired in a pay-to-play scandal. This was a problem that the Obama team knew about when it nominated Rattner as the car czar; in Chicago, these types of scandals are met with a blasé attitude.

Perhaps Barack Obama nominated Rattner because he received a vast amount of money from Wall Street during the campaign and he is now repaying a debt with taxpayer dollars. Perhaps he is sending a thank you to Pinch Sulzberger, publisher of the New York Times -- a close friend of Rattner's -- for all the help during the campaign.

But didn't Barack Obama indict this type of investors as the cause of our misfortunes? But not to worry! Obama has Rattner paired up with a negotiator for the Steelworker's union! Is the administration convinced that nobody within the Big Three is capable of leading a turnaround? Are they all tainted? Given the fact that Toyota, Honda, BMW, and other highly regarded foreign auto makers run successful manufacturing operations in the US, there is a considerable talent pool of experienced American executives who might have been tapped to help the American producers regain their footing.

By what stretch of the imagination does anyone think that The Usurper wants any facet of American Industry to survive, much less excel?

“Fairy dust”? Is that a reference to a certain young State Senator from Illinois and a certain limo ride?

When new people are elected they bring in their own clique.

Unfortunately Obama is new and ignorant. He was inexperienced, young and doesnt know anyone capable.

So he appoints people who gave him money or backed his campaign. They all do it ,only most have been around long enough to have a clue. Obama is green as grass and is more worried about his political , socialist, agenda, than he is in how the country is doing or its future.

I mean it as a metaphor for the phantasmagorical nature of the Obama hopenchange.

He certainly did not lack access to older, wiser advice from his own party. Bill Clinton. I wonder what it is like to be Bill Clinton, watching his wet behind the ears party mate send the country down the tubes? Hillary being SoS is cold comfort.

You can’t GET a nomination (what a joke, what’s a NOMINATION when no one makes that decision but yourself) unless you are mired in scandal and corruption.

It will be interesting how the history books read on this. Read up on how Hitler steadily overtook the government. This is a very similiar pattern and no one will call Obama on it.

I guess it’s all ok until millions are encamped and/or killed.

You give him way too much credit for just being plain ignorant. I gave up on the ignorant bit about two months ago and moved over into the actively attempting/succeeding in destroying America.

Just like the goodkisser of the hand of the Keeper of Mecca would do.

Tens of thousands of UAW jobs will be destroyed. The UAW pension fund is being stolen now by the UAW leadership. (Sorry, guys, there goes your free viagra, and your wife’s nose job.) And being well acquainted with union members, the crash will be blamed on Bush and big business.

It will do no good to argue with these leftist boneheads that obuma and the UAW are running the Detroit auto industry and they’re to blame. I’d guess that 25% of union members will correctly connect the dots and blame the UAW leadership, greedy union members and obuma; fortunately, that number may be enough to take back the rustbelt states in 2010 from the Marxists.

The morons in the Detroit ghettos don’t have enough brains to pull off their voter fraud without union help. If a small group of the union members decide to take revenge and sabotage the union leadership in the next election and 25% of union members back them, the whole leftist ship goes to the bottom of the sea.

Watch your neighborhoods. If you start seeing the windows in union meeting halls smashed and fistfights in the bars near the plants, that indicates, to me, that the union leadership is about to fall. When that crumbles, the states in the rustbelt will be competitive next election.

We shall see.

The article states, "Even worse his firm is now mired in a pay-to-play scandal."..BUT here's what's "even worse":
Steven Rattner, the leader of the Obama administration's auto task force, was one of the executives involved with payments under scrutiny in a probe of an alleged kickback scheme at New York state's pension fund, according to a person familiar with the matter.

wsj.com

So the Obama regime, having just arranged a Hugo Chavez style takeover of Chrysler through the UAW's pension plan, is now appointing an "auto czar" who's background & expertise allegedly involves illegal & secret plots with officials of another pension fund.

The article also states, "This was a problem that the Obama team knew about when it nominated Rattner as the car czar; in Chicago, these types of scandals are met with a blasé attitude."

Well in Washington D.C., when your regime is plotting proxy takeovers of the auto industry through leftist UAW pension funds, such a scandal in your background would not be "met with a blasé attitude", but with enthusiasm over Rattner's ability to get the job done.
