Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) today said he was guaranteed seniority on committees by Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) in the final negotiations before his party switch last week, talks that, according to Specter, also included a pledge that he would become the next chairman of the Judiciary Committee in several years.
Specter stood by his version of the one-on-one talks with Reid, despite the Senate leader's contradictory statements on the matter and the resolution that passed last night placing Specter in the most junior slot on most committees on which he serves.
"When I talked to Senator Reid he assured me that my seniority would be as if I came in (as a Democrat) in 1980, and I relied . . . on his representation, and that's the long and short of it," Specter said in an interview in his Capitol "hideaway" office.

I believe Reid intended to deliver on his promise but that the rank-and-file Dems just told both Reid and Specter NO WAY.
Who can blame them? Specter has no loyalty to anyone or anything but Specter. He’d desert them in a flash for whatever-else if he thought it would benefit them.

Actually, I was wondering how Chamberlain felt he became the poster child for appeasement... 60 some years later... we still remember that photo of him waving the piece of worthless paper...
In it he acknowledges that the only alternative left is to stop Hitler by force. But he also opines about how he couldn't imagine having done anything more or different that would have been more successful in the events leading up to war.

That's because there is no angle - they were this stupid.
And it was stupid. - it will now stiff arm away any vacillating rinos to their cause.
In real terms, if they had played it correctly, they could have picked up a few more seats without the fuss of an actual election.
But again, that is not the democrat party.
Arlen was so used to the wheeling and dealing away of their constituency’s core values for gain of power that he thought that the dems dealt like that.
But the real way that they deal is to smack your face right off. - IOW, you just got bitch slapped by a party of real bitches... and their constituent's will cherish them for doing it
