Governor Calls President’s Budget Cuts ‘Outrageous’
May 7, 2009, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today expressed great dismay over President Obama’s proposed budget cuts for Fiscal Year 2010.
The president proposes to cut millions from missile defense funding and to reduce spending for the Denali Commission and the Village Safe Water program.
“These budget cuts add up to about half of 1 percent,” Governor Palin said. “But while they do little to put brakes on the exploding federal deficit, they hit Alaska hard. I join our congressional delegation in their determination to see that Alaska’s unique challenges and its key role in national defense are not overlooked.”
The Obama budget would cancel a second missile defense field at Fort Greely and freeze the number of interceptors being deployed there.
“This is an outrageous move at a time when North Korea has shown its willingness to flout international sentiments and conduct missile tests,” Governor Palin said. “America needs a strong missile defense, and Alaska’s strategic location is invaluable in protecting the nation.”
The president’s proposed cuts also would weaken the Village Safe Water program, which has been key in reducing health risks through improved sanitation in some of Alaska’s poorest villages. Similarly, cuts to the Denali Commission eliminate job training programs in some of the most impoverished areas in the United States, eliminate village health clinics, and eliminate clean-up efforts for waste threatening water supplies.
Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell expressed concern about the Obama administration’s proposed reduction in oil and gas exploration incentives. “That would have the effect of maintaining our dependence on foreign sources of energy, which is contrary to the president’s stated objective. The higher energy costs for every citizen amounts to a tax on everyone. I hope the president will reconsider.”

I hope she keeps doing things like this. If she does, she will garner even more support.
If it were Bermuda developing IRBMs and nuclear weapons, and DC was in range... You can bet we'd have gold-plated missile defense right about now. But since it is only Alaska and Hawaii that are likely to be in range of NK anytime soon... Guess DC doesn't care. Apparently, some citizens are "more equal" than others. ;-)

Exactly. They cannot understand how such a strong woman is not liberal. In their little utopia, it simply does not make sense. I really hope over the next few years that she continues to make public statements such as this. As a poster up thread said, I would love for her to declare ANWR ALASKAN TERRITORY and NOT Federal territory and begin to drill and sell it at low prices to other states that would like to share in the findings.

That would be an AWESOME idea!!! Can she do that though, not very familiar with it, if she can do it, she should go for it, that way other states will thank HER for the gas prices being low. Sarah has the knowledge..she has the foreign policy experience, her state is in a direct path of a missile of North Korea chose to send one, Alaska would be the state that would be it. Sarah knows this, that is why she is so pissed about Obama cutting the budget for our missile defense..Now what she needs to do is start communicating with Reagan people, even with Dick Morris who is a HUGE fan of hers. They can help assist her with getting into the national scene. She can totally kick Obama’s ass in 2012, which is exactly what the left are scared of
Which is the more important?
To Real Conservatives "national defense" is of far more importance than any "deficit". If it's necessary to spend the country to the ground to defend it from enemies, then that has to be done.
Fighting a deficit by leaving us defenseless in the face of real enemies is treason.
BTW, the Obamistas have no interest in national defense nor in deficiets.
