upert Murdoch expects to start charging for access to News Corporation's newspaper websites within a year. 'The current days of the internet will soon be over,' he said, as the media strived to fix a 'malfunctioning' business model. Would you pay to read papers online?

Murdoch is turning into a secular idiot. He’s turned into another protectionist, ivory tower executive who is too far removed from the customer and reality. Sad...
Unfortunately, I agree. It’s coming. And websites which depend on linkage have to come up with a plan. Soon.
It doesn’t matter if he’s turned protectionist or not. We are going to see some big changes over the next few years and we’d best figger out what to do about it.
Not me, I’ll dump them.
Didn’t one of the papers already try this and it didn’t work out?
He already wrecked the WSJ and the Times of London is pretty lib. I still sort of like the NY Post. I can do without his news but I hope the AP, CNN, CBS and other lib outlets die first.
In a word, NO!
I would pay a small fee. The only other option is to get all my news from the radio. There is stuff in the local paper I want/need to know about. I wouldn’t pay for a national paper though.
The size of the WSJ has literally been cut in half since the takeover—both in depth and width
Like Fox, FR, and Rush, I would pay for a good conservative newspaper like Canadian FreePress. May subscribe to Heritage.Org if content becomes expensive.
Too many free news sites, and many more would pop up...
No
Not liberal ones. In fact, I spent quite a few minutes convincing a telemarketer that I did not want a free daily subscription to the Anchorage Daily News. She couldn't believe I did not want a free subscription. I told her the paper is so shamelessly liberal the only reason I take it at all is to get the supermarket ads. That's it. Liberal propaganda is not worth paying for, and not welcome for free.
