Redistributing George W. Bush's wealth, too
True/Slant ^ | 5/8/2009 | Jonathan Curiel

The rich get richer. Nothing wrong with that. Except in the case of an ex-president who doesn’t need the money, and could rehabilitate his image by donating his government pension to a good cause – say, for the families of Iraqi civilians and U.S. soldiers killed in the war that Bush instigated; or for the continued rebuilding of New Orleans, whose flooding became a symbol of Bush’s presidential ineptness; or for workers laid off in a downturn that started under Bush’s watch.

Such benevolence would renew the “compassionate conservative” label that helped galvanize Bush’s base in 2000. Bush would be following in the footsteps of other former presidents (most notably Jimmy Carter) who give time or money to needy causes. He would also be connecting himself to a former president who inaugurated the practice of presidential pensions: Harry Truman.

Don’t think this isn’t coming. If 0 can pass bills of attainder against wall street executives then why not against former presidents?

Why doesn’t Clinton give his pension to the family members who lost loved ones on the USS Cole and Somalia? He should also give his money to the survivors of the genocide he allowed in Rwanda.

Biggest crook by a country mile is Gore who’s supposed to have pocketed over $100 MILLION from his global warming scam. He’s the ultimate huckster conning the rubes and getting filthy rich doing it. He should fork over 90% of what he makes because he is using his connections to influence public policy with the goal of lining his own pockets.

How much more help does NO need than the billions that have already been given? How much responsibility does Bush need to take for a hurricane that he had nothing to do with?
I think Obambi should give up his half million book advance for flood victims in KY.

*rolls eyes* Would the author also chide X42 for raking in millions, and not helping the families of the soldiers dragged through the streets in Somalia, or killed in Bosnia, or the families of people who were harmed or killed by hurricanes and tornados while he was in office?

If not, then his haranguing is irrelevant.

Welcome to FR. What about X-42 the impeached one? His incompetence caused 9/11.

Thanks for the welcome. I don’t care about Bubba’s pension, or anyone who earned it. If you work for a company and they offer you a pension as a part of the job, you should get it to keep it and do what you will with it no matter what. Same as president. It’s not like President Bush doesn’t give money to charity. He had over $200,000 in itemized deductions on his 2007 tax return.

Didn’t President Bush already refuse his Presidential salary? Now he should refuse his (relatively meager) pension, too? Especially since he is the first President who will lose his Secret Service protection in ten years.
