Action: Forget big national protests for media attention. Get in the face of each politician.
"Track their scheduled local appearances. Organize locally to have protesters at their events. Instead of holding big "Tea Parties" on nationally scheduled dates, organize them locally by networking people who can show up on short notice to express their concerns directly to their own public officials. This is more effective than writing letter and e-mails for staff to tally and ignore, or answer in perfunctory ways just to create the illusion of listening. Instead, show up at their event and ask to personally deliver hundreds of letters, and ask them to address the protesters. If they won't do this, spread the word. Make it transparent that they don't want to listen to you, or to those who agree with you. Make it clear to them personally that opposition to their actions is growing, and won't fade away. Stay organized and share information about what they are doing, and what you are doing about it."

Forget the tea party shtick.
Call um war parties.
People need to ramp this up, and show their real contempt for this bloated corrupt, controlling government.
>> Call um war parties.
eh, I like “Liberty Parties”.
Tucson Tea Party participants went to the City Council meeting to address the issue of raising taxes on residential renters.
They had to have the meeting at the Convention Center due to all the attendees.
LMAO...Cant wait to see the u-tube videos...
“dont tase us bro”....
In addition, find local people with your viewpoint and encourage them to run against the incumbents. Getting your candidates elected is the best way to get their attention. This will take a nationwide, grassroots effort.
I like “Independence Parties (or committees), or “committes of safety”!
Good idea, Bruce, but we need to do both before it’s too late to do either.
“This will take a nationwide, grassroots effort.”
Yes, and it’s a marathon and not a sprint.
“Good idea, Bruce, but we need to do both before its too late to do either.”
Yes, the point is to act, and act now - like DL talked about up there in post 4!
I agree. We generated unprecedented momentum for the resistance with the tea parties, but that momentum was squandered when group agreement settled on July 4th as the date for the next round of protests.
At the time, I argued that the next round should have occurred much sooner, but too many people fixated on the next culturally significant date, instead of working this movement like a military campaign.
If we were holding the next round of protests this week or next, the enthusiasm and momentum would still be great enough to ensure an even larger turn-out than before.
By the time we get to July 4th, I'm afraid that we'll be starting all over in first gear. This is really no way to build an effective, nationwide protest movement.

Windflier, I don’t think it’s all been squandered, but perhaps some of it. I agree and was not glad to hear that July 4th had been picked - however there are now over 600 sites (maybe many more) for July 4th. The momentum is still building and we need to think nationally and act locally (to tap into a bumper sticker idea)..
But from a strategic standpoint, yes, we need to get involved in leading the local tea parties - funneling their raw power into something that could be truly great for this nation. That is - a national rejuvination of true American values.
Further, I don’t think it matters if we get 2 million people to attend in one day (which *would* be quite a feat.) :) What matters is if we get 2 million people to be involved and get another 20 million people in their circles of influence involved.
Perceptually, the Tea Parties and the protests are a media event, in part, despite what the lame stream media says or *doesn’t* say. So instead we are circumventing those lame brains and the socialists in guvahnmen’ to take our message directly to the American people. This is where the battle must and will be won. Eventually the free markets will reclaim the media (as Fox News, though far from perfect and at times very annoying, is partly proving) vs. Clinton News Network and MS Nee Jerk Studios - with their sports announcer wannabes.
We must and will use all alternative media. The grandparents in this movement better figure out how to twitter and post on My Space and Facebook - for the sake of the future generations. But more importantly - spend TIME with your grandkids and teach them the American values that you cherish (I’m just reiterating what you already know, I’m sure!)
There are already hundreds of Tea Parties planned for July 4th - as well as the weekend before and after the 4th!:
