Time Mag Blames 'Extremely Conservative Ideas' for GOP Decline (MAJOR BARF ALERT!)
MRC ^

Posted on 05/11/2009 1:37:09 PM PDT by Conservative Coulter Fan

How many times can you use the discrediting term "extremely," suggesting "extremist" positions, in a single sentence describing the state of the Republican Party? Three, if you're writing Time magazine's cover story. Michael Grunwald contended "the party's ideas -- about economic issues, social issues and just about everything else -- are not popular ideas." He then asserted in the article for the May 18 edition of the magazine: "They are extremely conservative ideas tarred by association with the extremely unpopular George W. Bush, who helped downsize the party to its extremely conservative base."

Grunwald proceeded to characterize the GOP's agenda as a "hard right" one which pleases Rush Limbaugh but not a majority of people, arguing: "A hard-right agenda of slashing taxes for the investor class, protecting marriage from gays, blocking universal health insurance and extolling the glories of waterboarding produces terrific ratings for Rush Limbaugh, but it's not a majority agenda."

[This item, by the MRC's Brent Baker, was posted Saturday on the MRC's blog, NewsBusters.org: newsbusters.org ]

An excerpt from "Republicans in Distress: Is the Party Over?", which is part of the magazine's "Endangered Species" cover story package:

....Republicans actually have plenty of ideas.

That's the problem. The party's ideas -- about economic issues, social issues and just about everything else -- are not popular ideas. They are extremely conservative ideas tarred by association with the extremely unpopular George W. Bush, who helped downsize the party to its extremely conservative base. A hard-right agenda of slashing taxes for the investor class, protecting marriage from gays, blocking universal health insurance and extolling the glories of waterboarding produces terrific ratings for Rush Limbaugh, but it's not a majority agenda. The party's new, Hooverish focus on austerity on the brink of another depression does not seem to fit the national mood, and it's shamelessly hypocritical, given the party's recent history of massive deficit spending on pork, war and prescription drugs in good times, not to mention its continuing support for deficit-exploding tax cuts in bad times....

This is a BIG LIE...going back to history the Press said of Lyndon Johnson, "He's getting everything through Congress but the abolishment of the Republican Party, and he hasn't tried that yet." President Bush and the GOP have been going left...he expanded the Welfare State...he outspent Clinton...to name a few examples...the GOP ran a liberal republican...John McCain...for President. The most liberal senator...Barack Obama...won the presidency...he is the extreme of the Left...and he is implementing a socialist agenda to redistribute the wealth. Now people are telling the GOP...hey, the way to go is destroy your base....abandon conservatism...and become Lite version of the Democrat Party.

Grunwald.
Now there is a name you can truly trust for the truth about the Republican Party.

Why is the media so concerned about the so called decline of conservatives? They should be rejoicing. Or are they concerned because they are just making lies and fabrications about the conservative decline and they know that are writing and speaking BS? Go to sleep now liberals there are no more conservatives left in the country, you won (extreme sarcasm).

No man with a genius for legislation has appeared in America. They are rare in the history of the world. There are orators, politicians, and eloquent men, by the thousand; but the speaker has not yet opened his mouth to speak who is capable of settling the much-vexed questions of the day. We love eloquence for its own sake, and not for any truth which it may utter, or any heroism it may inspire. Our legislators have not yet learned the comparative value of free-trade and of freedom, of union, and of rectitude, to a nation. They have no genius or talent for comparatively humble questions of taxation and finance, commerce and manufacturers and agriculture. If we were left solely to the wordy wit of legislators in Congress for our guidance, uncorrected by the seasonable experience and the effectual complaints of the people, America would not long retain her rank among the nations. For eighteen hundred years, though perchance I have no right to say it, the New Testament has been written; yet where is the legislator who has wisdom and practical talent enough to avail himself of the light which it sheds on the science of legislation?

I think they are whistling past the graveyard. These bogus stories started after more people began identifying themselves as leaning Republican. Also, they are being fueled by RINOs like McLame and Grahamnesty and Powell who are worried they will get the same "don't let the door hit you on the way out" message that Arlen got.

Deep down the white liberals who control the democrat party, the media, the academia, and wall street know that they are a minority among whites and this fact simply making them always angry even when the democrats are in total control of the country as it is happening today.

White liberals do not give a damn about the other half of the democrat party which is made up of blacks and Hispanics and they do not want anything to do with them, they do not want to live with them, they do not want to see them in their neighborhood, they do not want to see them in the schools where their children go, or the restaurant where they go and eat. All what they need from them is their vote on elections day and of course keep a large protion of them poor and on government handouts. White liberals do not give a damn about the majority whites who vote democrat because it is made up of blue collars workers and whites living on welfare. With the same fashion they treat blacks and Hispanics as described above white liberals treat the white blue collar workers and the white welfare people, all what they need from them is their vote on elections day but they do not want to live with them or having them close to their neighborhood, schools, restaurants, etc...

So after all white liberals are nothing but a tiny minority and it really outrage that the majority of whites who work hard and earn money vote Republican and are Conservatives.

White liberals do not give a damn about the majority whites who vote democrat. I mean the majority of those whites who vote democrat and not the majority of whites in general.

Exactly. Also see my post 12 & 14 for the reason why white liberals are always angry even when they win.

The louder the pig squeals, the tighter the hold. The last thing the MSM wants is anything to contrast against the One. That way they can say, “We had no alternative - we had to destroy the economy to save it.”

Obama and the Dems are desperate for Republican cover on their disastrous policies. When you talk to elected Dems, they’re scared to death of the leftwing radicals. They’ll use them to get elected, but they know their policies are a deathblow to the economy. They want to stay in the club and keep the party going.

By 2010, you’ll have had four years of Democratic control over the economy (The President vetoes or signs, he doesn’t decide). People already are suffering buyers remorse and Obamamania is fading fast.

Keep firing. It is working.

Next time, when some leftist moron starts to rant about how EXTREME the Republicans have become, ask him for a single example of a Republican position that has become MORE conservative in the last 20 years.

What is happeneing is that the left has moved so far left so fast, that to them it looks like we are moving right, even though our positions havent changed or have moved somewhat left.

The Left is moving quickly to convince Republicans that they need to abandon conservatism altogether, which would kill the GOP off for real.

This is Phase Two of their plan, after successfully convincing Republicans to nominate John McCain in Phase One.

If Republicans want a resurgence, they need to rebrand themselves as the party that will save the U.S. government from bankruptcy.
