But hey, when all else fails, just attack the messenger, right?

Did not attack the messenger...you did, and it doesn't work, you can't change minds and hearts by accusing ppl of things and making it up. I feel the same about immigration as you..As a matter of fact, in my humble opinion I think we should take care of our own, mind our own business, and shut down the boarders. If you think I'm pro immigration, you should ask others who know me...I've seen what an open immigration policy does to cities, towns and states, and I'm extremely unhappy with it..9/11 would have never happened if those killers weren't on our shores...So calm down and take a chill pill...

RE :”now the ppl got what they wished for...A socialist Congress and a corrupt, Muslim worshiping president..”

Thanks. What kind of choice was there for voters? MSM candidate McCain stood for nothing, a complete phony changing positions daily. The other choice was young sweet talking unknown liberal Messiah Obama who promised to “make wine out of water”, or liberal version : "free everything by taxing the rich and pulling out of Iraq".

The Obama ( conservative and libertarian ) cursers here refuse to accept that they have to offer something positive in opposition to democrats, you cant always win on “Ignore our guy because the democrat is a really bad guy” especially if ‘your’ last guy GWB (unfortunately he WAS mine too)didnt work out too well.

MSM spent years pointing out how McCain would win the moderates and hispanics if he got nomination. Then last year when he did they pointed out how phony he was.

you DID hijack the thread by putting spin on what she originally said...Do you have the integrity to offer one?

I will apologize for ranting when KLT agrees to apologize for her kneejerk accusation, in defense of the Bush years, that I am "a NOBAMA fan" at #47.

I agree with sickoflibs at #51 that

The circle the wagons around the GWB theme popularity has really weakened around here and it's about time. It's not Bush OR Obama, It's Bush AND Obama.

KLT, at #47, suggested that if I were not "a NOBAMA fan," I

would have realized how much better we had it under Bush with all his faults.

Now, frankly, I voted--as a fresh-faced young voter in 2004--for Bush1, and at that time I would have wholeheartedly agreed with you. But, five years later, I must entirely disagree. To say that Bush kept this country "safe" while leaving the southern border wide open is silly. By offering amnesty to tens of millions of unlawfully present foreign nationals, Bush and other establishment Republicans offered inducements to violate the rule of law. Furthermore, to draw attention to the Obama "Socialism" now while ignoring the reality that Bush's administration set the stage for such an expansion of Big Government--whether through NCLB, Medicare Part D, or TARP--is folly.

The problem is not just Obama, but it's Bush too. Both the Republicans (well, the majority of them) and the Democrats have utterly betrayed these United States and it's high time that conservatives come to their senses and realize such a reality. This is not about just Republicans, or just Democrats, nor is it a plea to go third-party, as KLT suggested at #60.

I will not pine for the days of Bush, because they sucked too. Nor will I resort to supporting "the lesser of two evils"--because in the end the "lesser" is still evil. [Plus, anyone who follows that sort of relativistic approach will ultimately support just about anything.] I (and most voters probably agree) don't want someone who is just better; I want someone who is actually and reasonably conservative and who actually says what they mean and means what they say. Period.

1 No, I did not vote for Obama in 2008.

I agree that the days of Bush sucked too. I understand your point about the borders. We share the same sentiment.

HOWEVER, we have not been attacked since 9/11 and that was largely because of the measures Bush and his team put in place.

To state, as you did, “To say that Bush kept this country “safe” while leaving the southern border wide open is silly.” is to slant what KLT actually said and meant.

And I think you know it.

BTW, you will find very few people on this forum more conservative/right wing than myself or KLT. Very few.

Choose your words more carefully next time. And know something about who you are slamming before you do it. ‘Pod.

I will not apologize...but I will say, if you think Bush left the borders open, perhaps you remember Clinton, who opened them wide, and gave incentives for them to pile in by the ton...plus he loved to register them to vote, illegal or not...

At the time when I lived in NY, I had a friend from Guatemala who went for her US citizen papers, and they only asked her one question, "who is the president of the Us"....I remember she was shocked because she actually studied for the test, then they told her to register Demonrat...I was outraged, but little I could do...

Remember one thing fresh faced voter, they are all politicans no matter which party they come from and they all lie, manipulate, change their policies and go back on their word, especially if their internal poll numbers are unpopular, they roll with the tide...It is a power thing...doesn't matter if you vote Green Socialist Party, they are all the same in that respect, they change with the poll numbers and the lovely Congress they work with...

You will learn with time you vote for the lesser of 2 evils...nobody does what they say they're going to do..

PS, I hear through the grapevine you are a 3rd party person...which is fine, just take their promises for what they are, worthless.....

Personally, I'd prefer to have a 3rd party conservative that would bring this country back to the constitution and reduce the size of government to a small fraction of what it is..I had my say...G/L rabs, don't be causing trouble here you'll eventually get booted...

I will not apologize...

Then let's just agree upon a truce.

you remember Clinton, who opened them wide, and gave incentives for them to pile in by the ton

Again, deflecting attention.

Yes, the Democrats really suck but that doesn't give our side an excuse to act the same way, albeit, to a lesser extent.

Conservatives must be conservative, not just "better" than the liberals.

You will learn with time you vote for the lesser of 2 evils...nobody does what they say they're going to do..

If that is true, then the cause of limited government and freedom is likely lost, at least, with the present political situation.

I hear through the grapevine you are a 3rd party person...

Not necessarily. Although I like the Constitution Party and did advocate for Baldwin last November, I am not affiliated with any party whatsoever, and I have no issue supporting a genuine conservative, regardless of their affiliation.

3 big missed opportunities for Congress & Executive:

1 - Introducing bills to illegalize our legal infanticide.
2 - Sealing the borders with aggressive military force... border-protection-patrols could be integrated into the deployment/redeployment cycle... also giving a “cool down” from the hot war-zone to the warm border-zone before coming all the way back into the cold-zone of “civilized society).
3 - Bailing out the airlines after 9/11... we should have let the free market (and small business) take care of the problem.

and, bonus #4:

4 - The assenting Justices of the 25Jun05 USSC case could have been expelled for their rendering of “Immanent Domain” to mean that the government can perpetrate theft and larceny. IE they were guilty of being accomplices to theft/larceny under both color of law & color of office.

I'm in an Engineering School at a prominent public Ivy. That "turning things upside down and inside out" is the result of semesters of logic, mathematical proof, and philosophy/ethics. [Admittedly, my ethics prof. was a Democrat but was quite tolerant of various viewpoints.]

Maybe I'll study law some day...who knows. In the meantime, I'll keep on hangin' out with the CS/IT and math people.

I agree with sickoflibs at #51 that

The circle the wagons around the GWB theme popularity has really weakened around here and it's about time. It's not Bush OR Obama, It's Bush AND Obama.

Ding ding ding. Well put.

Bush is better than Clinton? Well duh Clinton was a modern day Nero who ignored the growing terrorist threat and you add a laundry list of faults after that.

Bush is better than Obama? The most radical and unqualified man to ever inhabit the White House? That's a no-brainer.

Bush is also better than Stalin, the swine flu, and T-Bag from Prison Break.

But that's not saying ANYTHING at all. Just because you're better than pondscum like Obama, Clinton, Carter ect doesn't mean you're any good.

Having a nasty rash on your arm is better than having your arm cut off, but that doesn't mean you should like nasty rashes.

And accusing anyone who doesn't praise Bush of being a Obama lover is plain retarded. "Oh you must love Obama then!" Lets give that a rest, it's insulting to everybody's intelligence.

As to Laura, she seems like a nice lady, but a Democrat before she met George and doubtlessly none of the bedside advice she gave GW was good, she probably nagged him to be more "compassionate" and "tolerant". A negative influence on his policy views.
