Anyone have any direct experience with Shotgun reducers. I've never seen them used and am interested to know if they are worth the time and money.
The PURPOSE is to allow you to shoot smaller gauge ammo in a bigger shotgun. FYI: The 2nd Amendment is SELF-incorporated to all government entities at every level. It is MORE ABSOLUTE than the 1st Amendment, or any of the others, because the wording forbids not only CONGRESS, but ANYONE from infringing on it. The 1st says “Congress shall make no law...”. The 2nd say “shall NOT be infringed!” Period! End of debate!

I had a cousin who was smaller than average who used to shoot anything you would let him shoot when he was EIGHT! Sadly I went to his funeral in December of ‘07, he died at age 60 after surviving Hodgkin’s lymphoma and having a heart bypass. He was described in the eulogy as the kind of person who was going to do what he wanted to do even if he wasn’t physically able to do it. I agreed. I am about to turn 65 but I would need a huge government bailout loan and at least twenty more years of good health to catch up with all the things he did in 60 years in spite of very frail health.
They were 20 ga to .410.
They worked, the .410 shell patterns were more open than the 20 ga shell patterns.
I used a plastic dowel to push the .410 shells out of the Skeeters. Slow to use and a pain in the neck.
The .410 shot cup in the 20 ga barrel did not seal so I got blow by with lower velocity. Longer leads were the name of the game.
I used them for a month or so, then put them on the shelf. That was years ago.
A pair of Briley full length tubes are the way to go if you are serious about using only one shotgun for your skeet or sporting clay shooting.
The ATF only tested Orion’s plastic flare guns. Presumably metal ones, such as an older all metal Orion or Olin or the currently available GECO1 might fare better shooting .38. But the inserts go for $80. As a close range self defense weapon would just the flares be adequate or is a .38 round that much better? Do the flares light off and burn as soon as they come out of the barrel? If so, would they act like willy pete? A pack of 5 flares goes for $60 so the reducer/ammo method is not that much more expensive (assuming one does not really need the gun to also act as a signaling device).
I've got a Browning BPS Trap and Skeet in 12ga. It's got a rotating collar at the base of the magazine tube that enables/disables the feed for single-shot operation. So far I haven't run across another one like it.

Actually a gauge down from 12 is 16, but of course I am being a jerk, since 16s aren’t made any more and I would bet the ammo is hard to come by.
The BPS is available in 16 and is a very nice gun. I have several 16’s and think highly of the gauge. From a 1914 Browning to a custom Connecticut Shotgun RBL.. they are magnificent guns.
It’s the best gauge for upland birds, and nice for close waterfowl like ducks over decoys.

I haven’t seen 16s in a long time. I used to own a Model12 Winchester in 16.
Excellent gun, I’ve had several M-12’s in 16 gauge.
The best American 16’s are the M-12 and the Parker.
Although I do have a Stevens 520 in 16 with a 19” barrel that is a 20’s gangster dream gun.
