It's been "close to the edge" for a while.
The supply of Federal "Large Rifle Match" (210M) primers has been scarce/intermittent for several years - well prior to the Era of 0.
Basically the quote I heard. Couldn’t find a good figure quickly (hence “something on the order of”).
Pretty bad when you have to buy a new gun just to afford ANY ammo.
Actually I was looking at a spamcan of 7.62x25 yesterday, wondering if I should find a CZ52 to match.
Guess I’d better before one of you guys buys that particular case...
Maybe it was 10 billion total, 2-3 billion sold into the private/civil market.
A good thread to start would be how to properly store and guarantee the preservation of ammunition....
Keep it cool and dry, and it’s good for decades.
It’s also been reported that it can be left out laying around the Mojave desert for decades, and it’ll still work just fine.
Or, you can take a look at this link:

You just know that a deal where bullets cost 11 cents a pop in any quantity, have an ifinite shelf life in a steel spam can, and the bullets will go clean through BOTH sides of a Kevlar helmet....well you know that deal won’t last. It’s a fluke it’s still available.
If I ever open up my spam cans, it’s because there is a war on. I kid you not.
Another reason to buy a steel “spam can” holding 1,224 rounds of 7.62X25. Cost, delivered to your door: 150 bucks (sportsman’s guide, last week.) And the whole point of the spam can is almost infinite preservation.
“In case of war, open can.”
Kel Tec would probably build a folding carbine in that caliber based on their 9mm, but they probably have the same fear I have: the ammo supply could be cut off next week by a stroke of the pen.
Another reason to buy a spam can TODAY.
The digital edition of July 2009 Guns magazine hit my email today. Saw your book ad on page 81.
Well, we'll just have to "use it up" appropriately, won't we.
You can get .22? Lucky Stiff. :)
BTW, I got 1,000 rounds of .30 carbine before all this madness started, to add to the few hundred I had left at that time. Since I've got 500 rds of .223, with 500 more on back order. (I could have got 1,000 the first time, but like a dummy, I did not. Would have been cheaper per round, especially when shipping and handling is included).
It's 55 grain, supposed to be 3,250 F.P.S, headstamp says only "M193 0 8". I think it's been made up of components from one source, with assembly by a DoD contractor who normally only loads some pretty special stuff, but apparently had extra capacity. I don't think it's "real" M193, or even buil to the same specs. Case mouth does not appear to be sealed, nor does the primer. Case mouths are annealed however.
They show the 1,000 round boxes as being available now, for $370 plus shipping, (probably total just under 40 cents/round.
Haven't shot any of it yet, because the AR kit is still on back order, promised for early July.
Hope to have it ready to go for the 4th Annual Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoot: October 17th, 2009 ~ Seagoville, TX
Texas Cowboy is a FReeper and Marine, who is now guarding the streets up yonder.
About 400 of my early pre-orders are in the mail now.
“I hear superficial evidence in the media about these supposed ammo shortages, but Ive not seen or heard anything definitive.”
You must not have looked for ammon lately. Just try to get .22LR in quantities more than 50 or at best 100.
.223? yeah right.
Sure you can get shotgun shells and 30.06 but 45, 9mm etc. Good Luck.
As a matter of fact I’m going out looking for ammo today, and I’ll report back on what I find. I’m loking for 12 GA buckshot shells, .22LR rounds in bulk, and 30.06, 150+ grain bullet rifle rounds.
.22 rounds in particular are extremely useful to keep on hand, and 1000 rounds makes an excellent addition to the survival kit. Anyone can shoot a .22, and it makes for an excellent squirrel/varmint gun, and it’s better than nothing for self defence. The 9mm is just as important, but have you ever seen what one will do to a squirrel..??
