Nationwide ammo shortage affecting local dealers_(all sold out)

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The country has seen an increase demand in ammunition in the last few months, and some say it's due to the fact that Obama is now in office, and many fear stricter gun control is on its way.

More gun control has always been feared by those who use guns for hunting, shooting and just wanting to have the right to protect themselves against intruders.

There was a rise in gun sales a few months back, and now we are seeing a rise in ammunition sales.

Stores can't even keep it on their shelves, and manufacturers have put businesses on waiting lists because they just cant keep up.

The Roseburg Gun Shop is not the only store in town having trouble keeping ammo in stock.

You ain’t kidding. The ammo mfrs are using every spare primer in the country. I just happened to have some on hand or I would be totally SOL.

“Any of you hunters had trouble getting long rifle ammo, varmint rounds, long .22 rounds, 00 buckshot or rifled shotgun slugs yet?? Besides handgun rounds, those are a few more handy calibers to have in the ammo locker as well...any shortages noted??”

I’m in the Denver metro area. Was down at Sportman’s Warehouse the other day, almost no ammo other than an odd box here and there on the shelves. For the last two months local gun shop owners just stare and shake their heads when I ask about 38 Special ammo. Finally lucked into a private citizen willing to part with a few boxes. Shop owners say supplies of everything are snapped up quickly upon delivery, they blame hoarders.

I see, you are a “root causes” kind of person.

The shop owners here say it all started about last October. Carry permit apps are way up also. Looks like you are onto something.

Obama and Holder are going to laugh their arses off when they get the laws/treaties passed which will make all this ammo illegal and the owners felons if they don't either use it up in a year of so or register it and pay their "fair share" of taxes on it.

They won't even bother to claim "it's for the chillrun".

Excuse No. # 33423 For Not Cleaning My Garage: I know I'll find an old issue of Shotgun News with advertisements of 5.56mm for 11 cents a round, then get depressed for the rest of the day.

My local paper published a Boston Globe article as its lead article. In it the writer attempts to make a not-too-subtle argument that all the folks buying up assault weapons and ammunition are just modern Ku Kux Klanners disillusioned to have a black president.

Yep. We're all racists.

These gun-hating liberals are same people who published and continue to publish patently racist diatribes about Condoleeza Rice and Clarence Thomas at every opportunity.

9mm has been an endangered species in the Willamette valley since January but in the last few weeks, I was able to get a couple of boxes from Walmart. :)

Gun advocates should consider legislation at the State level that would provide for privately produced State ammunition, out of federal controls.

This would be as easy as encouraging manufacturers of ammunition to have a production facility in the State, with a marking on casings to indicate that all parts of the ammunition were made in the State, that it is only for sale and use in the State, and is such cannot be regulated by the federal government.

This means that federal acts mandating alterations, like microstamping or chemical tag formulations to propellant, or restrictions on the sale or use of ammunition, like prohibiting lead bullets, would not apply to that ammo.

Around here there’s no buckshot, no handgun ammo other than .22, no 7.62, no 5.56, and little of anything else.

I bought a pistol in January. While waiting on the “instant background” check I was advised to check out the discount table. The lady told me that they had some reloading supplies there.

They had primers selling for $20 per thousand.

I bought several. OK, more than several.

But over in my corner I have a complete LMT upper that I got last week. I ordered it the week after the election and it was finally delivered last week.

I havent put it on because I dont have an aimpoint for it as yet and dont want to till I get some optics.

I paid too much

I paid 28 bucks per box...would have been 18 last year.

But keep in mind just down the street at gander mountain the same box of ammo was 49.00

The shop owners here say it all started about last October.

I was down in the Pasadena, Texas area when the big "economic crisis" hit and the poll numbers for McCain started looking dismal. Obama was saturating the airwaves with his "95% will get a tax reduction" lies. McCain announced, to Obama's great delight, that he was suspending his campaign in order to deal with the bailout.

Just the week before, gunshops had been quiet and well-stocked. Before I left Pasadena on October 20th, activity in the gun shops and at the Wal-Mart ammo counter had ramped-up considerably. Yeah, it did actually begin before the election, as soon as it was clear which way the wind was blowing.
