American Psychological Association revises statement on homosexuality
By Bob Unruh

Posted on 05/13/2009 9:44:45 PM PDT by Maelstorm

A publication from the American Psychological Association includes an admission that there is no "gay" gene, according to a doctor who has written about the issue on the website of National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality.

Dr. A. Dean Byrd Ph.D, the past president of NARTH, confirmed that the statement from the American Psychological Association came in a brochure that updates what the APA has advocated for years.

Specifically, in a brochure that first came out about 1998, the APA stated: "There is considerable recent evidence to suggest that biology, including genetic or inborn hormonal factors, play a significant role in a person's sexuality."

However, in the update: a brochure now called, "Answers to Your Questions for a Better Understanding of Sexual Orientation & Homosexuality," the APA's position changed.

The new statement says:

"There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles. ..."

I overheard an avowed lesbian say this “Do you know what the definition of a bi-sexual is? Greedy, just plain greedy.” On some bizarre level I agree.

i must add that such is only true in days that end with “y”

All kidding aside, I tend to think Kinsey was right, and it probably isn’t a black/white issue.
That being said, however, the focus ought be on acting like adults, and moreover, minding one’s own business, both in regard extroversion and personal behavior.

"It’s probably from all the toxins and possibly certain plastics in the environment. Even sunscreen contains estrogenic toxins that affect a developing baby’s sex organs and feminizes the baby."?

Fascinating theory insofar as sexuality goes, but why not?

I often wonder what the real impact on the human body is by massive (& continual) bombardment of uWaves from appliances, cell phones, radars et al etc. The relationship to all the cancers that're becoming rather common has to be there to explain the increases.

Yes, you do make a good point, and I can see where you feel my reasoning is flawed. I too would feel that way, but I have had, by chance meeting, close friends at one time that were gay to the fullest extent of the word. I would sit with these men and ask them outright & quite bluntly, why they are the way they are? It sounded like I was talking to a bunch of women. To make a very long story short, they were detailed, emotional, cared about things women usually think about, etc. It was quite amazing. The one man, said that his estrogen levels wacked out every month and made him an emotional rollercoaster, much like a woman’s menstruation time.

I was taken back by the sincerity of emotion by these men, feeling as they do, and what their own doctors have found with regard to hormone levels. Instead of these men having trace amounts of estrogen, like men do, they had higher, fluctuating levels like those of women.

So, aside from the different studies being done, I have also based my opinion on hearing it right from people who are gay, and have had hormonal test results like these.

And yes, the hermaphrodite experience is something totally different, but you wouldn’t believe the amount of people out there that do not believe this is possible, and if it is, then the child, at birth, will have one or the other sexes removed and will be dictated to as to what gender they will become.

Its a good article, one that warrants a lot more research & discussion. I think if I ran into another group of gay individuals, I could hear something less physiologically associated, like a woman who might have been abused by a parent through her young life, might not be able to go into the arms of ANY man because of it, so therefore chooses love in more gentler arms, with another woman - then it reflects a psychological result, rather than a physiological one.

But it is ALSO, as you say, where a person can have the ability to contain themselves, and just because they have a sexual preference doesn’t mean they need to force it down the throats of the rest of us. I DO NOT believe in gay marriage...and I am sorry if I offend anyone by saying that. You make a very good point here in your last 2 paragraphs, especially when it comes to activism.

Anyway, I’m rambling again. Thank you for the post.

My Psychologist PhD friend said that homosexuality was redefined to mean ‘a variation on normal’ decades ago. I asked her ‘what's normal about it?’. She couldn’t answer. Redefining words is a very destructive practice by the Leftist culture.

Meanwhile, God’s word hasn’t ever been “revised” and holds the Truth.

It’s an abomination, unnatural.

“These kinds of explanations for homosexual behavior always seem subject to new interpretations or corrections. Until someone convinces me otherwise I’m sticking with my theory. Homosexual behavior is a symptom of a mental disorder.”

I would add emotional and social disorders. A number of homosexuals I’ve known have used the behavior as some kind of rebellion, revenge or coping against a troubled past relationship, often with one of their parents.

I would add groups like Metanoia Ministries are excellent for helping people that are involved in this behavior to leave it behind and pursue a healthy future.
