A man who rode his bicycle 180 miles to have sex with a Scranton teen he met on the Internet will serve one to four years in prison, a judge ruled Wednesday.
William Wagner, 26, 414 Battery Drive, Havre de Grace, Md., met the 15-year-old girl through the social networking Web site MySpace. In June, he biked to Scranton to meet the teen.
In February, Mr. Wagner pleaded guilty to unlawful contact with a minor.
He slept at Pine Brook baseball field, Sanderson Avenue and Green Place, while he was in Scranton. He took the teen to the baseball field and had intercourse with her there several times, police said.
After he left Scranton, the girl told her parents she had sex with Mr. Wagner, who reported it to police.
The Times-Tribune does not identify sexual assault victims.
The teen told police she considered herself to be "in a relationship" with Mr. Wagner at one time. He knew she was only 15, she told police.
"It was a peculiar set of circumstances, including that he rode his bike to meet her," said Deputy District Attorney Michelle Olshefski. "I think the sentence is very fitting. He acknowledged that he knew her age and what he did was wrong."
After serving his prison sentence, Mr. Wagner will have to register as a sex offender under the state's Megan's Law requirements for 10 years.
I'll give him some points for style at least.
they should let him go since he’s an environmentally sound child pedophile. /s
and let’s not forget that he got to first, second, third and then home plate on an actual baseball field. How awesome is that! I bet he tweeted about it.
It is actually quite remarkable that he was even able to have sex after a 180 mile bicycle ride. There must have been at least a day or so before things got serious.
Damn. Didn't even pick up on that one. A home run. More style points.
After a bike ride like that he undoubtedly had a few foul balls before he hit the single...
PEDALPHILE
;^)
Anybody know how many days it takes to bike 180 miles? I’m curious, and I don’t have a benchmark.
or had more balls hit her in the face than Rusty Staub!
And no, I haven’t met a girl on MySpace.
Mr. Wagner reported it to the police?
Maryland’s age of consent is 16.
If he walked there he might have avoided all this trouble.
A guy that rides can do 180 miles in a day but he's going to be shot when he gets there. I suspect he left one day and arrived the next.
OMG there are some clever replies to this thread!!! The above is perhaps my favorite, but all of yours were good!
At age 24 I rode from Pittsburgh to Scranton, about 250 miles. It took 3.5 days, but a lot of mountains. From Havre de Grace, I’ll bet he went right up along the Susquehanna, staying pretty flat. I’d say 2 days, 90 miles a day, easy.
By the way, when I got to Scranton, I did not mess around with an underage girl. She was 22.
If you stay there 3 nights, is the 4th night free???
This is not a easy ride. After Harrisburg, it is up hill for a long way. After I80, it is steep.
Most other cyclists could do it in two.
Cheers!

Why am I hearing Wizard of Oz music as I think of this guy pedaling along....
Ha! BRAVO!!!
I drove from Benton to Scranton. It took 45 min.
And no punishment for the parents of the 15 year old.
Don’t get me wrong, but there’s no responsibility? nothing that a good parent could posibly do? I think we’re only (once again) hearing one side of the story, But I digress.
As a conservative, I don’t necessacarally advocate punitive action upon the parents, but IMHO, chastizing them at least somewhat is not off limits. Unless you consider the fact that being responsible enough to pay for an Internet connection bill with no reguard in the responsibility of allowing your own children to access it - with no guidelines or rules?
That’s bad, or at the very least, poor parenting.
Lock up a danger to society for ten years (my way would be fifty), but improper parenting lasts a lifetime.
IOW, where are the parents?
Damned teenagers, you can't trust 'em to keep a secret. The first little fight she has with her mom, it's "Oh yeah? Well I've been having sex with Mr. Wagner!" Best to stay away from that kind of thing!
>> Seriously in-shape bicyclists could do it in a long day (15 hrs x 20 m.p.h.)
15 hours x 20 mph = 300 miles. He only needed 180.
More like 9 - 10 hours, but a guy who can ride 20mph for 9 hours can get him a real woman, not a 15 year old. Like, maybe, a “Sheryl Crow” or equivalent. ;-)
Thanks, my benchmark was roughly 40-50 miles a day, which I think roughly calculated to 6 hours on the bike, 6 hours in the bar, 6 hours in the pool, and 6 hours in bed.
Was the girl’s name Daisy and was it a tandem bicycle?

“I’ll get you, my little pretty!!”
No, it wasn't Lance.
Cheers!
Will do better this year: I'm drafting off of my teenage son, who led the pack on a training ride (he on a mountain bike, competing against roadies.)
Cheers!
>> You’re right, while I was typing I was remembering someone who did the MS150 in Texas — and back again — in one day. No, it wasn’t Lance.
Mrs. Tick did that ride one year. But not in one day.
I think it stands for “Masochistic Sorebutt 150”, right?
I can write a better sentence than that. I'm not a reporter though.
Until your wife finds out at the next rest stop :-)
I remember doing the MS 150 in Minnesota and plopping down at the halfway point in Hinckley, MN, and seeing The Matrix for the first time, playing on a DVD player. Very surreal when you are food and oxygen deprived. :-)
Cheers!
I'm hearing some Coolio
...What up everybody so glad you're here
It's Coolio with the flow back in your ear
This ain't a fantastic voyage
But I'm still on a mission,
to see if I can get your attention...
If you're in top shape one, because you'll average 18 - 20 mph or more. The longest stage in the tour de france is just over 100 miles, but includes mountains and the cyclists are going a lot faster than 20 mph.
>> I did 20 mph for 75 miles last year as part of the Minnesota MS 150, with a group I tagged along with.
That’s pretty darn good, actually. Congratulations!
I do triathlons so I train alone, never in a peloton. 17 to 20 mph for about 30 miles is more my speed.
Uphill both ways, though. :-)
Ill get you, my little pretty!!
"If I Only Had a Brain?"
Great tune and even better video. Too bad MC 900 Ft Jesus stopped making music.
>> “If I Only Had a Brain?”
That too. I was thinking of the witch on her bicycle.
Adapted for real life, it might be:
“If I only had enough blood flow to supply the head that I should be thinking with”.
Coupling bicycling 150 miles with lust, 100% of this dude’s blood was below the waistline. He must’ve been quite a sight when he got there — looked like an Apache from the waist down and a retarded albino from the waist up.
Thats called "hitting for the cycle"....
You will not be doing a 20mph average with PA hills unless you are lance Armstrong....and maybe not even then.
LMAO
Where were the parents?
I did a "bike-a-thon" for charity once (I was about 15 years old at the time), and I rode my bike to the location (about 15 miles), then proceeded to ride 250 miles that day. By the end of the day, about 14 hours later, I was so tired and sore that I had to call my mother to pick me (and the bike) up for a ride home. I wasn't able to walk the next day.
Mark
Actually, now that I think about it, I must have only ridden 180 miles that day - I just saw a photo of the "patch" that I won, and it had "180 miles" on it... Amazing how the distance can multiply in only 32 years...
Mark
See now if you’d been 15, and she 26, you’d get some serious style points (actually, maybe not...since you’d only have been making the ride since you couldn’t drive yet!)
Had a good laugh when I re-read the title and saw “bike” though; when I first skimmed it I for some reason read it as “motorcycle”.
In all seriousness though, the guy’s a dirt bag, but does anyone think that girl didn’t know exactly what she was doing? Call me cynical, but I’m guessing the problem started 2-3 (hell, probably more) years ago with the upbringing of this myspace princess.
Sorry but I do not buy that this young woman was a “innocent child”, every thing she did, she willingly did on purpose. This young woman is old enough to get married.
