Barack Obama speaks at Notre Dame, calls for 'fair-minded words' (Barf)

SOUTH BEND, Ind.—President Barack Obama confronted the issue of abortion head on Sunday at Notre Dame, acknowledging that differences over the issue are largely irreconcilable but issuing a plea to those on both sides to tone down harsh rhetoric and search for “common ground” he believes is possible.

“I do not suggest that the debate surrounding abortion can or should go away,” Obama said. “No matter how much we may want to fudge it – indeed, while we know that the views of most Americans on the subject are complex and even contradictory – the fact is that at some level, the views of the two camps are irreconcilable,” he told graduates.

“Each side will continue to make its case to the public with passion and conviction. But surely we can do so without reducing those with differing views to caricature.”

Obama’s 20-minute commencement address marked his most direct remarks on abortion as president – and he delivered them at the nation’s flagship Catholic university, where his appearance sparked protests. But while he often drew on his personal experiences to make his points and highlight his respect for Catholicism, Obama never substantively addressed why he believes a woman has the right to abortion.

Still, it wasn’t long into his speech before Obama touched on the issue that has defined his commencement invitation. He asked in a rhetorical way – a constitutional law professor in him coming out - how people can adhere to principles and fight for what they believe in, “without demonizing those with just as strongly held convictions on the other side,” Obama said:

“Nowhere do these questions come up more powerfully than on the issue of abortion.”

Obama’s speech was all about the rhetoric.

When the President of ND spoke it sounded like both a Democrat convention as well as an Obama convention.
______________
I thought it was a campaign speech for the next election. SICKENING!

These kids are morons. America’s intellectuals are determined to destroy America, the West and everything the America stands for. They are doing the very thing which people like Marx and Lenin had hoped would happen. One of the key methods of destroying a society is to go after the youth. The youth are impressionable. Their minds are open, and they are looking for values.

I almost wrote Senator Warner this past week to ask where was his condemnation of that Sykes woman and her hateful rant delivered the night before my son’s graduation? Or in the past of Michael Moore or the hatemongers who made the film of President Bush’s assassination?

I wonder if Sen Warner was at the dinner last Sat night?

It was the usual appeal to moral relativism as the supposed higher ground. Then there was the very unfortune slur, the president's reference to "parochial" views. This is ALWAYS code for an anti-Catholic dig.

Jenkins' hysterial speech praising Obama was disgraceful. One of the most disgraceful and shameful moments in Catholic intellectual history and the postconciliar period. It's clear Jenkins' is an hysterical supporter of Obama and shameless liberal. This was absurd from the Stockholm Syndrome valedictorian to the hysterical cheering for Obama.

One moment of great irony: As Obama started his spin on relativism for abortion you could hear a baby crying in the audience on the Fox News feed.

Resident (Pres_ent) Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., or Barry Soetero, or Mr Michelle Robinson, or Sock-Puppet, has ALREADY stopped talking in any meaningful way with those who differ from his point of view - after all, he won, doncha see, and that proves the rightness and justice of his cause.

There is a power this current occupant of the Oval Office answers to. It just is not one the most of the rest of us would like to see in charge.

"What is scary sick is that the vast majority at ND and Catholics in general support and love the guy. I want to puke.'

i agree. I sat in total shock at these catholics giving such adoring admiration to this president.

I am not catholic & today, I am happy that I'm not being represented by the likes of the majority of those attending the graduation ceremonies at Notre Dame. I would be so ashamed to be associated with them.

I pray that God will keep our country in His care & help us to overcome & reverse the path that so many devious people are trying to lead us down!!

So....how can "irreconcilable differences" have "common ground"...wow...contradicting himself before he even gets to a period.

Impressive.

Sad, but impressive.

Even Clintoon was smart enough to allow at least a paragraph before contradicting himself.

Seems President Obama and Pelosi have been taking rhetoric lessons together.

They should both be asking for refunds.
