In my area, there are tons of houses for sale, many of them are sitting empty. I assume that some people are stuck paying two mortgages. It is definitely a buyers market right now.

Only Michigan has a higher unemployment rate than Oregon.

Michigan has a collapsed auto industry and an entrenched lunatic Socialist government. What's Oregon's excuse? I would presume also an entrenched lunatic Socialist government?

That pretty much sums it up. Portland and Eugene control the rest of the state by their sheer numbers. The rest of us wind up enduring nutty ideas like: taxing autos per mile (it's coming soon); more light rail (instead of building roads and freeways); and higher "user fees" on everything (I'm a lawyer who does some reduced fee cases - some of my clients have higher court filing fees than I can charge for my work). Oregon is a liberal paradise, yep.

"Both Unexpectedly Lower"

Unexpected by whom? Not anyone in the business it seems, just the talking heads.

Builders who speculated in Seattle should’ve gambled somewhere else. There are states where building continues at a fast clip... see North Carolina.

While I hate the way the current administration and Democrats in general are destroying our economy, as a life long North Carolinian, I'm glad the mass expansion has slowed down around here. It was getting out of hand.

Yesterday the market shot up on the news that Lowe’s posted a smaller than projected loss, beating the estimates. If you look at what they are doing it is almost criminal to tout that without comparing the ratio from inventory to repurchasing orders.

Lowe’s is not buying anything near the inventory that they had on stock and sold this quarter, building starts are way down and people are not spending a lot of money right now on remodeling and upgrades.

You saw a bump yesterday, and the talking heads predicting that the market is getting close to or even has bottomed out. There is a lot of pumping going on by the big boys to get money back in the market, and they are pushing hard to make news look better than it is for their own bottom line.

Normally I’m a glass half full kind of guy, but just go out and see what normal people on Main Street are saying, no one is confident and most all believe that things will get worse for them before it gets better, and are planning accordingly.

So let me get this straight. Yesterday the market surges because Lowes has a good report. That their sales were down and their report good only because of cost-cutting was ignored.

But now that the home starts are down, the market is still up?

Yeah, this market isn't being manipulated for a pump-and-dump.

There is a little published statistic out that says; “For every green job created, there are 3 regular jobs lost.”

Chairman Maobama can manipulate statistics and lie about the real facts all he likes, but the truth keeps on coming back.

The real effects of what he has already done are not yet visible, but they are like a volcano ready to blow. When they do, this will be the worst economic disaster in World History.

No, it is the wishful thinking of people who refuse to look into the history and post-event dissection of previous debt deflations and treat this as a garden-variety recession... just a bit worse, that’s all.

As I keep saying, debt deflations are different. Once the financial sector is compromised, a whole lot of assumptions about how the economy responds to stimulus, etc are off the table.

I wonder if many of these “first time home buyers” are grabbing up bargains without considering the costs to own a home. Maintenance, repairs, property taxes, insurance. I know a few single women where I work who are buying their first home. I hope they have considered all the costs. I’m afraid that they are more concerned with color coordinating their walls and new furnishings they can’t to go shopping for. One was looking at ceiling fans on the Internet she wants to buy for each room the other night.

“Keep talking about ‘green shoots’”

A different kind of Green, Saw an ad in the paper for a local developer who is going all out with “green” construction materials/systems in their developments. Will be interesting to see if this results in increased sales.

“The Obama “RECOVERY” is well underway.”

After the enactment of cap & trade, the expiration of the Bush tax cuts, and the rest of Obama’s socialist agenda, unemployment will go to 20%.

Then conservatives will win both Congress and the White House.
