Climate change odds much worse than thought (Hoax is funded by the U.S. Dept. of Energy)

Climate change odds much worse than thought
New analysis shows warming could be double previous estimates
David Chandler, MIT News Office
May 19, 2009

The most comprehensive modeling yet carried out on the likelihood of how much hotter the Earth's climate will get in this century shows that without rapid and massive action, the problem will be about twice as severe as previously estimated six years ago - and could be even worse than that.

The study uses the MIT Integrated Global Systems Model, a detailed computer simulation of global economic activity and climate processes that has been developed and refined by the Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change since the early 1990s. The new research involved 400 runs of the model with each run using slight variations in input parameters, selected so that each run has about an equal probability of being correct based on present observations and knowledge. Other research groups have estimated the probabilities of various outcomes, based on variations in the physical response of the climate system itself. But the MIT model is the only one that interactively includes detailed treatment of possible changes in human activities as well - such as the degree of economic growth, with its associated energy use, in different countries.

This work was supported in part by grants from the Office of Science of the U.S. Dept. of Energy, and by the industrial and foundation sponsors of the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change.

Good grief. The left sure planned all of this well.

I’m not convinced we shouldn’t all be thinking about a better place to live.

Behold the power of the modern media. The average man has not, could not, experience anything that would actually indicate to him that the globe is warming because of his activities. Yet many believe it.

The most comprehensive modeling yet carried out on the likelihood...”

Funny how none of these models have ever proven remotely accurate.

We should be looking for a better place, but where? The locust of the left have invaded and stripped bare most countries. And here in the US look what they do. They impliment their socialist plans until even they can’t afford them, then they move from say NY to Fl or Mass to VT/NH and they do bring their swarms with them and strip the land bare there as well.

This is called “science by press release”, which is almost, but not entirely, unlike science.

Wake me up when they get a peer-reviewed publication.

it doesn’t mention whether they worked the model back 10 or 20 years ,does it?

Hurry! Hurry! Must get done fast.

Plenty of time to worry about the facts later on.

Just like TARP and the Stimulus.

Another scam to “justify” another tax, and then another and another until we have nothing left but our blood.

People with a full belly and a little money in the bank aren’t as easy to push around as those who depend on the government for their next meal.

When the Big Government party (both republicans and democrats) get through with us we will all be hungry and penniless and the government will control everything.

Just like the USSR only worse.

I agree. If I'm still around in fifty years, I'm going to move 30 miles north to compensate for the warmer climate where I am now (yep, 30 miles will balance out the entire forecast warming!). Or did you mean move someplace other than this warming planet?

Since there are so many uncertainties, especially with regard to what human beings will choose to do and how large the climate response will be, "we don't pretend we can do it accurately.

This is the money line! I'll bet you a dollar to a doughnut that the models they are using have NEVER undergone Validation and Verification (V&V). I'm getting so sick of this horse poop!

It's a beer-reviewed publication, at the moment.

A few more beers, and I'll go read the entire article.

The advocacy journalists are all college buddies of the advocacy scientists, and they are all lefties out to save the world from evil capitalism.

Love it -”we don’t pretend we can do it accurately”. Somebody got a hefty government grant and now has to deliver even if it’s a load of manure.

Don’t forget to keep away from the shoreline. When the oceans start rising, you don’t want your ocean front cottage to be washed away.

"The most comprehensive modeling yet ..."

Which is to say that all previous computer modeling proved to be abject failures and in constant need of tweaking. And they were. This model is no different. Still garbage-in/garbage-out. Humans, of course, have not yet identified all the factors that contribute to and influence climate and how thay all inter-relate. Dr. Roy Spencer, for example, believes that precipitation is likely to be a major factor that has yet to be adequately researched.

The earth has been cooling for ten years now, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO we have to act now. We can't wait until we really can predict climate before we have to surrender our freedom to greedy Big Government based on the GI/GO government funded climate modelers.
