For nearly two decades, Okili Nguebari has lived in Sonoma County, playing music true to his African roots, marrying a Santa Rosa businesswoman and raising two children, seemingly unaffected by overstaying his student visa back in 1985.
That is why it came as a shock to his wife, Sabrina Krauss, when on April 20 a half dozen Homeland Security agents arrested him as he departed his traditional breakfast spot on Santa Rosa Avenue. The immigration agents pushed him into an unmarked car and whisked him to San Francisco and then flew him to a detention center in Arizona.

Well -— look at it this way -— after he’s deported, he’ll be even closer to his African roots...
wait for it
HOMELESS!!
Perhaps the lesson is “don’t thumb your nose against the law”.
He had plenty of time and ability (a legit US wife) to become a citizen.
Presumably because he wanted to avoid taxes, he chose not to.
His loss.
A drummer.
What do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians?
Surely your INS has better targets than this short Congo guy? Fair enough he’s an overstayer and technically ought to be deported, but surely that should happen sometime after the umpteen-million violent criminals from across your southern border who are in your country illegally...
...silly me! I forgot. Those overstayers are likely to shoot back. Well, I guess the short Congo guy has to go, then.
How many guitarists does it take to change a lightbulb?
What kind of musicians?
Beaters or blowers?
"Will the defendant please rise?"
I notice he’s had no problem availing himself of the Bankruptcy Courts.
1. Okili Nguebari came here from France on a student visa 28 years ago. He spent 15 years as a student and ended up sitting on bar stools and beating his tom-tom.
2. He attempted a 'marriage of convenience' before with another woman who later backed out before he was successful in getting Sabrina Krauss to marry him.
3. He's had 24 years to get his immigration status in order, but never did so.
Back to France you go, Mister Okili Nguebari.
How do you know if the stage is level?
Drool comes out of both sides of the drummer’s mouth!
Ahhhhh, quoting one of my favorite jazz artists. Sure miss him.
He sounds like a decent guy, can they just deport Ringo instead?
A: One who knows how to play the drums but doesn't.
Too early to tell. Clearly there is a reason that homeland security is involved and they aren't talking at the moment.
