SEATTLE - The odyssey of Mary Kay Letourneau, which began years ago when she was a 34-year-old teacher who raped a sixth-grade student, has now evolved into "Hot for Teacher" night at a Pioneer Square bar.
But the bar's owner says the event is all in fun, and he hopes people take it in the right spirit.
Letourneau, who eventually served time for raping her former student then later married him after her release from prison, will be hosting the event Saturday at Fuel Sports Eats & Beats on Washington Street.
Letourneau's former student, Vili Fualaau, will be there, too. He'll be the DJ, spinning Top 40 and club classic hits all night.
Fuel's owner, Mike Morris, said he realizes having Letourneau host a "Hot Teacher" night could be touchy and might rub some people the wrong way.
But the way he figures it, "Mary's done her time. She's served her sentence. They're now married; they have kids together."
"It's turned into sort of a love story," he says. "I realize it had a sick twist at the beginning, but they're both adults now. They're both married by the state of Washington. So, it's just go and have fun on a Saturday night - and if people are looking to have some fun, just come check us out."
Morris said this is actually the third time that Letourneau and Fualaau have hosted a "Hot for Teachers" night at the nightclub. The first two events were low-key, and he said patrons really warmed up to the couple.

Nope, but it did roll all the way into the cesspool.
It looks to me like KOMO is owned by Fisher Communications which apparently has never complained that fair use of it’s news stories for purposes of education and discussion is in any way a violation of KOMO’s rights as a copyright holder. It’s possible that they sometimes post stories from other sources who do strong arm fair use practitioners but in this case the story is attributed to the KOMO staff and not to any other socialist thugs like the Seattle Post Intelligencer.
Schmitz was my Congressman when I lived in La Jolla (San Diego), CA in the early 70s. A bigger nutcase would be hard to find. This guy made Ronald Reagan look like a Communist. He was scarey, and put up a very religious front. Then we find out quite a few years later that he was cheating on his wife and had a second family. Worst piece of garbage politician I ever came across. Well sorry, I forgot about Pelosi, Reid and Obama.
I remember seeing it mentioned back when she was going through the trial. I have not seen it mentioned since. I feel so sorry for her ex-husband, this poor kid, and all of her children.
Ah ma, you know I’m not like other guys....

It is still a power thing. One is an adult in a position of authority and power over an under 18 minor. You can have the very same situation of a male teacher being ‘in love’ with a doe-eyed teenage girl who ‘loves him’ back, and there is no way the guy doesn’t get jail time.
I’m sorry they both need to be treated the exact same way. You are duped and being duped into thinking they are different scenarios, they are not. One perpetrator has boobs and a vagina, the other has a penis. They are both deserving of statuatory rape charges and for being sexual predators, consentual relationship or not. Technically these kids cannot give consent until they are adults, so it doesn’t even factor in in cases such as these.

Thanks for ruining it for me. I was 17, she was 20 and I thought she was just being nice.
25 and 34 is a BIG age difference. One puts you only 7-8 years more than someone (a big sister), the other makes you twice as old as someone. That is enormous. Two times the life experiences, even more because you’ve spent half that time as an adult on your own.
Technically it is a big problem. I would say to be fair that 17 and 20 are not the same thing as 17 and 34. Would you not agree?
Plus most people forget that Leteaurno was married at the time and had kids.
From the older person’s perspective, it is equally wrong to seduce a 6th grade boy. And frankly, 34 yo’s are often better looking than 24 yo’s.
