I would urge all fair-minded FReepers to read beyond the excerpt for the full story.

I’m not fair minded , but the clear intent would be that BO’s appearance boosts Keyes’ visibility and prospects; thus Keyes and his friend are both paranoid.

I stopped eading after the second instance of Ann Coulter's name being misspelled.

Give me a break!

First, I would suggest everybody read Ann's piece on this. It can be found at:

The Gorgeous Ann Coulter

Secondly, after reading Ann's piece, I think Keyes is over-reacting and comparing Ann's comments to his being barred by group after group for his beliefs.

Instead, Ann was doing what she does best, being contrarian. She suggests Notre Dame perform live abortions at graduation.

So the suggestion that Notre Dame has a fundraiser for Keyes (who was not welcomed by Notre Dame) is the same contrary statement to make people think.

Keyes has a bit of a drama queen streak. He wishes he were as famous as Ann Coulter these days.

On another note, I did find it interesting that Keyes mentions his dealings with the Constitution Party, which some around here adore.

He states “Ironically, in the political realm my firm commitment to the defense of the US-Israel relationship contributed greatly to the failure of efforts to join forces with the Constitution Party last year.”

This is what has always bothered me about CP candidates....they are anti-Israel and typically nutjobs.

a. piggyback off of Dr. Keyes' fame and courage in order to get people to read her column

I'm going with a. Clearly Ann Coulter is jealous of Keyes' staggering fame and name recognition, and hopes one day to achieve just a fraction of his success.

By the way, what color is the sky on your planet?

Ann Coulter was clearly attemting contrarian humor. Alan Keyes is looking for an enemy in the wrong place with this. The article is biting satire, completely mocking the pro-abortion hoopla at Notre Dame.

Rather than attack Ann Coulter, perhaps he could have just pointed out that he actually is experiencing some loss of income via speaking engagements, due to taking a highly public stand on conscience, and leave it at that. Instead, he’s sounding rather peevish, and creating enemies where there were none.

Sorry, I am no fan of Ann Coulter. I find her to be an embarrassment — a crude, rude and obnoxious woman who probably does more harm than good for our causes.

Why didn’t you just post the whole thing if you thought it was worthwhile enough to read?

Keyes snipping back at Ann seems a pointless endeavor. Like Savage blabbering about Rush or Sean. It’s silly. Waste your blog space on Obama, Mr. Keyes. Ann is not your enemy, even if you’d like that.

It's okay that Alan Keyes doesn't have a sense of humor.

That he doesn't know that he doesn't have one isn't a problem either.

That he doesn't care if other people know that he doesn't may raise a few eyebrows, but in the end it's his problem.

Ok, now I read the frickin' article. I do not think Mr. Keyes is correct in his assumption that Ann did this as a snide comment about him and fund raising.

I would have to read Ann's article(which I will now look up and do)before making a full judgement but I would say she was taking a slam at the people who arrested Mr. Keyes and was making fun of the frickin' liberals.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say Keyes is over reacting just a tad and unless he called Ann and talked to her about this and had her tell him her true intentions of the headline he should just STFU about her because he has no evidence except his feelings.

As a fair minded FReeper, I read both the Keyes and Coulter articles. It looks to me like Ann’s point in the title was to say that the ND debacle was good for Keyes, the way Zero is good for gun sales.

OK, EV, I have read both columns, along with all of the posts.

I fully admire Ann Coulter, Alan Keyes, and you (in your great witness at ND - I followed your commentary).

As a teacher of AP Composition in high School, I help my students to discern, most importantly, the attitude of the writer toward his subject, and then how that attitude is conveyed. I think Mr. Keyes missed the satire.

I don't hold him in any less regard for missing it. Coulter's essay takes aim at abortion as squarely as Keyes does when he speaks.

a. piggyback off of Dr. Keyes' fame and courage in order to get people to read her column (Dr. Keyes is never even mentioned in the body of the article) (just plain silly)

b. give herself credibility by creating the appearance of being on the same side of the abortion issue as Dr. Keyes (she is on the same side)

c. to distract readers from realizing that she explains (in two consecutive sentences) that Roe v. Wade is both "lawless" and "the law of the land" (she's just stating what now exists)

d. promote her latest "pro-life" idea of allowing the people the right to vote on whether or not babies can be killed." (even Fr. Pavone works incrementally - would it not be better to have, say, the entire state of texas protected from abortion? This is not to say that the battle must not also be fought at the Constitutional level.)

I went and reread Ann Coulter’s column. How Alan manages to take offense at it is beyond me. I like Keyes conviction and clear thinking but this taking on a faithful ally for no discernible reason is nuts at best. Did he really say all this or did one of his enemies put words into his mouth in an attempt to make him look bad?

"The title [of Ann Coulter's article] leaves the impression that somehow or another I benefited financially from what I did and endured at Notre Dame."

I'm willing to bet that Ann is a big fan of Alan Keyes and the title expreses her wish that Keyes IS rewarded handsomely for his efforts. Leave it Keyes and his friends to NOT get it.

Well, I like Ann Coulter AND Alan Keyes, in their respective roles, which are rather different.
