A friend recently forwarded me a link to Anne Coulter's latest column with the following comment:
"Anne's Coulter's latest column is entitled: "Notre Dame Holds First Alan Keyes Fundraiser"Here is a multiple choice test:
Anne Coulter uses Alan Keyes' name to
a. piggyback off of Dr. Keyes' fame and courage in order to get people to read her column (Dr. Keyes is never even mentioned in the body of the article)
b. give herself credibility by creating the appearance of being on the same side of the abortion issue as Dr. Keyes
c. to distract readers from realizing that she explains (in two consecutive sentences) that Roe v. Wade is both "lawless" and "the law of the land"
d. promote her latest "pro-life" idea of allowing the people the right to vote on whether or not babies can be killed."
Naturally I took a look at the column. My friend was right. Except for the shrewdly deceptive title, my name did not figure in the article at all. As I reflected on this oddity, one possibility occurred to me in addition to the choices listed. The title leaves the impression that somehow or another I benefited financially from what I did and endured at Notre Dame.
In reality, nothing could be further from the truth....

Keyes snipping back at Ann seems a pointless endeavor. Like Savage blabbering about Rush or Sean. It’s silly. Waste your blog space on Obama, Mr. Keyes. Ann is not your enemy, even if you’d like that.
“So the suggestion that Notre Dame has a fundraiser for Keyes (who was not welcomed by Notre Dame) is the same contrary statement to make people think.”
I think your reading of Ann is correct. I don’t think it was her intention to denigrate Dr. Keyes in any way. I also agree with other posters that Dr. Keyes has overreacted. Although I can sympathize with him. He has been pushed to the side and thrown under the bus by many conservatives.
Most of the time I enjoy Ann’s ascerbic wit. I am sorry this time was misunderstood.
Now in regards to my personnal view of Ann.....I have not really taken her various serious after she foolishly endorsed Romney. I had to question her sanity or intelligence.
That he doesn't know that he doesn't have one isn't a problem either.
That he doesn't care if other people know that he doesn't may raise a few eyebrows, but in the end it's his problem.
I would have to read Ann's article(which I will now look up and do)before making a full judgement but I would say she was taking a slam at the people who arrested Mr. Keyes and was making fun of the frickin' liberals.
I am going to go out on a limb here and say Keyes is over reacting just a tad and unless he called Ann and talked to her about this and had her tell him her true intentions of the headline he should just STFU about her because he has no evidence except his feelings.
I agree. I thought, if anything, the title was a polite gesture regarding how important Alan Keyes’ presence was for the effectiveness of the protests. It wasn’t spelled out, of course, but Ann Coulter is like that.
As a fair minded FReeper, I read both the Keyes and Coulter articles. It looks to me like Ann’s point in the title was to say that the ND debacle was good for Keyes, the way Zero is good for gun sales.
Maybe we should respect both (they both have demonstrated conservative beliefs in the past), but not take what either one says as ‘gospel’..
I agree I was puzzled that she endorsed Romney.
I'm willing to bet that Ann is a big fan of Alan Keyes and the title expreses her wish that Keyes IS rewarded handsomely for his efforts. Leave it Keyes and his friends to NOT get it.
Well, I like Ann Coulter AND Alan Keyes, in their respective roles, which are rather different.
Not only that...she screamed like crazy when a radio host tried to ask her about her support for Homosexual agenda, abortion supporting Mitt. She went ballistic and started calling the host a kook and never answered the question.
The entire "ANN" image is nothing more than a con to move Republicans (men mostly fall for it)in the direction of Big Republican Federal/global government, all with a blond smiley face, a well placed witty joke and in a skinny black dress package.
Ann was shaking up with a known liberal just last year. She thinks this is a very profitable game.
Palin is your real "ANN". Coulter is a manufactured book seller and a right wing sheep herding technique.
She thinks this is a very profitable game.
it is...and i agree with your post.
Kinda like Dick Cheney.
I agree. Both have made (imho) valuable contributions to Conservative causes. I would not be in a hurry to throw either under the bus, unlike some.
This is a war of ideaolgies in which we need a variety or people fighting where they can, how they can, in order to defeat the threats to Life, Liberty, and property we are facing from the Socialists.
Oops! I thought this was about Keyes!
I’d take Romney over George “Dubya” Hoover. And not because of any Coulter endorsement.
OK..I’ll bite. Why do you like Romney? Is it the hair?
