Billionaire club in bid to curb overpopulation
The Times ^ | 5/24/2009 | John Harlow

SOME of America’s leading billionaires have met secretly to consider how their wealth could be used to slow the growth of the world’s population and speed up improvements in health and education.

The philanthropists who attended a summit convened on the initiative of Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder, discussed joining forces to overcome political and religious obstacles to change.

Described as the Good Club by one insider it included David Rockefeller Jr, the patriarch of America’s wealthiest dynasty, Warren Buffett and George Soros, the financiers, Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York, and the media moguls Ted Turner and Oprah Winfrey.

These members, along with Gates, have given away more than £45 billion since 1996 to causes ranging from health programmes in developing countries to ghetto schools nearer to home.

They gathered at the home of Sir Paul Nurse, a British Nobel prize biochemist and president of the private Rockefeller University, in Manhattan on May 5. The informal afternoon session was so discreet that some of the billionaires’ aides were told they were at “security briefings”.

Stacy Palmer, editor of the Chronicle of Philanthropy, said the summit was unprecedented. “We only learnt about it afterwards, by accident. Normally these people are happy to talk good causes, but this is different – maybe because they don’t want to be seen as a global cabal,” he said.

(snip)

Why all the secrecy? “They wanted to speak rich to rich without worrying anything they said would end up in the newspapers, painting them as an alternative world government,” he said.

obama care will solve the population problem, if there is one, in the United States. He will tale care of the young, the middle aged, and the old.

It will be by a aborino for the young. The middle will be though starvation when he destroys the farms and rations food, the old will be taken care of by denying medical attention.

This includes the fools and idiots that were stupid enough to vote for him.

The seeds they sown back on November 4, 2008 will be harvested.

Yeah, 1/40th of an acre of land in Texas will solve everything for everyone.

‘Good Club’? More like the ‘Pretentious Self-Righteous Hypocrite Club’.

Of course a plot even a normal lot size would not solve anything for a list of reasons.

I didn’t recall it was 1/40th.

There is still a valid point that given certain adjustments, the world could easily sustain several times the current population with everyone having plenty to eat and other modern benefits.

Should be added, unless they completely forgo their wealth, hard/liquid assets, trust funds etc... and live in squalor the rest of their lives, none of these hypocrites should be taken seriously. When you steal from one (Taxes) to subsidize others/dictators, I demand perfection from the thieves. The thieves themselves need to become like those who are being “championed”.

It's pure comedy listening to these people that generated wealth from a system they want destroyed/prevent other societies from establishing

Never mind that the biggest problem regarding population in much of the world is the issue of underpopulation. Russia and Germany are paying women to bear children.

These nit wits are literally setting the stage for another Holocaust. If there are too many people and overpopulation is destroying the planet, then killing some of those people would be justified. In fact, Turner has backed China's policy of infanticide and forced abortion.

The calculus of an ever-growing world population that is entitled to be given equal share of whatever lifestyle the developed world achieves is—as hard as it is for Freepers to read—unsustainable. It is a political, economic and ecologic disaster.

Don't be too surprised when the statist's solution to this problem requires removing YOUR wealth and YOUR freedoms. They will still be fat and sassy.

Sheesh, how many times will people of good will fall for this claptrap.

“I’m okay with their taking a look at this.”

Really? Did that first sentence not give you pause?

“to consider how their wealth could be used to slow the growth of the world’s population”

If they *slow* population growth of people like you and me, there will soon be none.

“If they’re so worried about it, let them cull their own families.”

Amen, Anybody, and I mean anybody that preaches about overpopulation needs to practice what they preach and kill all their immediate family and then commit suicide and then maybe I will talk to them. Oh yeah, their dead.

Not to worry. They’re not talking about slowing the population of people like you and me. They’re talking about third-world countries. It’s just not politically correct to point out or even allude to the fact that it’s black and brown populations they’re worried about.
