Japan panel wants "first strikes" against enemies: report (despite Japan's pacifist constitution)

TOKYO (Reuters) – A Japanese ruling party panel is to propose that pre-emptive strikes against enemy bases be allowed despite the country's pacifist constitution, Kyodo news agency said on Monday, weeks after a North Korean missile launch.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile in April that flew over northern Japan after warning that it planned to launch a satellite, prompting the government to deploy missile interceptors to the area .

"Japan should have the ability to strike enemy bases within the scope of its defense-oriented policy, in order not to sit and wait for death," Kyodo quoted the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) committee as saying in its proposal.

The committee also plans to call for Japan to develop early-warning satellites to detect the launch of missiles toward the country, Kyodo said. Japan currently depends on information from a U.S. early-warning satellite, the agency said.

The crisis will escalate if could give the JASDF four squadrons of F-22J Japanese Raptors (along with some SDBs and JDAMs) and plan a Pearl Harbor-esque style air raid on the Musudan-ri ICBM launch site in northeastern DPRK.

That will be bombarding!

What do you think of my reply?

Imagine Tora! Tora! Tora! with JASDF pilots flying F-22J Raptors instead of the Zeroes, Kates and Vals their grandfathers flew.

It’s very difficult to blame the Japanese. The Norkies need a credible deterrent, someone who is not afraid to vaporize them no matter what knife they have to the throat of South Korea.

I’m very happy to see Japan moving this direction. It is important for Japan and for the region.

“Japan should have the ability to strike enemy bases within the scope of its defense-oriented policy, in order not to sit and wait for death...”

It doesn’t get more commonsensical than that!

From that I gather that Japan is no longer comfortable in simply relying on the U.S. Seems Obama continues to fail.....

One North Korean nuke in downtown Tokyo would annihilate something on the order of a gazillion innocents. It is not to be contemplated.

Eagles up.

The gloves are off.

The wolverine is out of the cage.

It is only a matter of time.

Japan CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT RELY upon My President.

They were openly calling the North Koreans "motherf*ckers" today on the streets of Tokyo and in the hall of power here.

"Tipping point" has been reached. The genie will soon be out of the bottle. Yes.

So many of us predicted it here on FR.

The last one to realize this is probably Obama. What a work of art. /sarc

Yes, and about time too. I think Japan would be silly to keep relying on the US for “protection”. Bozo won’t even protect us, let alone anyone else. What did you think of the BS statement Bozo made? We stand ready to talk! That will teach those N Koreans a lesson.

10 to 15 million of us here in the Greater Tokyo area would perish or horribly wounded, to be exact. Not a pretty picture. But soon, people in Honolulu and Anchorage will be in the same boat as we here in Tokyo, sorry to say........

Japan is the only country to have been hit with atomic bombs so they are rightfully concerned. The Bush Defense Doctrine of not waiting for the first punch in a dangerous world applies. China has failed to control its client state. It needs to be informed because of this failure others must now act forcefully. any attempt on China's part to render aid to North Korea would be an unfortunate decision and have grave consequences.

Let loose the dogs of war.

Crush your enemies; see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women.

Now why wouldn't Japan trust the US anymore?
