Glimpses into the liberal mind are unfailingly eye-opening.

Among the many questions that statement raises, my first is- what, precisely, does a “better conclusion” mean?

They have no perspective on how their views square with history.

For liberals, history begins when they wake up each morning.

Called Sotomayor (and hispandering in general) May 1st. Despite what a few people are paid to say no matter who is nominated, she is NOT the most leftist activist judge of those being seriously considered by the administration (her background as a prosecutor, plus a non-zero number of bro-business rulings as a judge, would likely put her close to Rockefeller land, like Souter). In short, Obama nominated an older (by 4 years), unhealthier (diabetes and some unconfirmed conditions), more transparently biased, 2x affirmative-action version of David Souter (Souter is just as leftist, but stealthy about it). She will probably put in 15 years.

I was afraid Martha Vázquez would be nominated.

Who do you think you we going to get?

Well that just explains everything.
Vote yes on one just because it's not the other?

If they condone the actions of a bigot, they're just as bad.
Voting to put this person on the Supreme Court can't be explained, or justified.

Kagan would be worse.

We will be getting Kagan later on anyway.(If bambi wants it that way)

You're fooling yourself in thinking we are saved from it, by looking the other way now.

She dismissed the white firefighter’s appeal without comment.

The case is now going to the USSC

she can’t be that far left. Initially appointed by Bush senior. She sounded a bit conservative.... maybe center.

She was initially recommend by Moynihan. If I am not mistaken, GWHB had a dem senate at the time.

The Ronery One is gonna be livid ... all that money spent on nuke tests and missile launches and TOTUS steals the news cycle with this questionable pick announcement.

Scalia is a national treasure. A mountain of intellect that does not deviate based on his personal feelings.

One thing to love about Scalia is that he says social issues should be handled at the ballot box not in the justice’s chambers. No one listens of course.

I agree.

That’s a reach NinoFan. The woman may be abrasive but she is professional enough to leave it toward those in front of the bench. There’s no indication she’s been abrasive to her peers.

Not saying Kagan is not a worse choice. But your hopes are too high in comparison is all.

She will be a very left wing urban liberal who will vote to make policy from the bench. She will have no qualms in doing so. And her video up on Drugde is a mockery of same.

She is very clear that making policy is her perogative from the bench.
Don’t think so? Ask a white firefighter in New Haven, CT.

>>>>>It’s a mistake to look at this in terms of ideology.

Ridiculous. Sotomayor has said that she believes the court is where policy is made. That is at the core of liberal judicial activism.

Also in addition to the comments I made in post 240, I must point out that your depiction of Kagan as some lefty loon and Sotomayor as more reasonable is misleading. Sotomayor is obsessed by race and her opinions will be solidly left wing with a tinge of racism.

“She dismissed the white firefighter’s appeal without comment.

Does anyone know when that case would be before the USSC? If nominated would she recuse herself? She certainly can’t comment on it though if it is before the Supreme Court.

What would be more ironic, that she loses the case before or after she gets nominated?

Since we already know the media position, is it open season on white people?
Discriminate at will.

This is the kind of justice we should expect to see...

Sonya Sotomayor’s most high-profile cases held that the city of New Haven could disregard the scores on a promotional test for firefighters.

Frank Ricci, a firefighter in New Haven, Conn., worked hard, played by the rules, and earned a promotion to fire lieutenant. But the city denied him the promotion because he is not black. Ricci sued, along with 16 other whites and one Hispanic firefighter. After a 7-6, near-party-line vote by a federal Appeals Court to dismiss the lawsuit, the plaintiffs petitioned for Supreme Court review.

If Sotomayor is confirmed, she will again issue the same judgment she made when she was in the court of appeals.

Five of the majority judges, including Sotomayor, decided that New Haven’s decision to discard the test results and deny what would otherwise have been virtually automatic promotions to the highest-scoring white and Hispanic firefighters was “facially race-neutral.”

The reason? Because none of the low-scoring, ineligible African-American firefighters was promoted either. These five judges also endorsed Judge Arterton’s conclusion that the city’s decision was justified by fears that promoting the high-scoring whites might violate Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and bring a discrimination suit by the low-scoring blacks.

Simply because a much higher percentage of the whites than of the blacks who took the exams had passed, the majority said (adopting Judge Arterton’s opinion), the city could be “faced with a prima facie case of disparate impact liability under Title VII.”

“Most working- and middle-class white Americans don’t feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race,” Obama said in his much-acclaimed March 18 speech about race. “So when they ... hear that an African-American is getting an advantage in landing a good job or a spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed ... resentment builds over time.”

So it does. But based on Obama’s record and the views of the civil-rights specialists on his transition team, there is every reason to worry that he will appoint MORE civil-rights enforcers, judges, and justices bent on perpetuating the race-based discrimination against whites (and Asians) in many walks of life that is exemplified by the New Haven firefighter case.

The fact that he elevated Sotomayor to the Supreme Court is just one evidence of that.

Not a reach at all. She will be a solid liberal vote with a personality and staunchness that will not do a thing to help the left win Kennedy’s vote. That’s what matters on the Court. Obama is a fool for selecting her. Thank goodness he is.
