Obama Chooses Sotomayor for Court
New York Times ^ | May 26, 2009 | Jeff Zeleny

President Obama will nominate Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as his first appointment to the court, officials said Tuesday, and has scheduled an announcement for 10:15 a.m. at the White House.

If confirmed by the Democratic-controlled Senate, Judge Sotomayor, 54, would replace Justice David H. Souter to become the second woman on the court and only the third female justice in the history of the Supreme Court. She also would be the first Hispanic justice to serve on the Supreme Court.

The president reached his decision over the long Memorial Day weekend, aides said, but it was not disclosed until Tuesday morning when he informed his advisers of his choice less than three hours before the announcement was scheduled to take place.

The president narrowed his list to four, according to people close to the selection process, including Federal Appeals Judge Diane P. Wood of Chicago, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Solicitor General Elena Kagan.

“That’s good. Mean’s a great court fight!”

I can’t see our lily-livered GOP senators putting up much of a fight.

. . . and only the third female justice in the history of the Supreme Court.

It is going to take a long time for the women to catch up.

Sotomayor is an absolute liberal/socialist idealogue.

America gets what it voted for, and this undeniably underscores the betrayal of conservatism by the Rino loser non-campaign run by the elite last November.

The announcement by the Treasury that a CRISIS had to be fixed in DAYS has turned out to be a huge lie. That money STILL isn’t spent.

That means that a republican was intentionally derailed by someone on his own side.

They wanted an Obama win, and SCOTUS was one of the major reasons they wanted it.

Huge Betrayal!

“Whatever the current “verdict” on Sotomayor is, I guarantee we will be cursing her name in the future. She will be a leftist activist. No good can come out of this illegal “president”, even by accident.”

Elections Have Consequences, and we will feel this one for years and years.

Wow it only took twenty minutes for the news media to shelve her liberal record and talk up the “rags to riches story” I guess if we can get an American Idol president why not glamorize his supreme court picks.
Expect a tv movie starring JLO sometime next year.

Sounds like she will be the most liberal judge on the court and she thinks she makes the laws.

Clarence Thomas is the ONLY Judge who doesn't think they make the laws.

All of the Judges are legal postivists and think law is what THEY say it is.

I'm a little surprised he didn't pick Diane Wood. Soto isn't well like even among Democrats, she's described as something of a megalomaniac.

Yes, but she's an Hispanic megalomaniac. That's all that counts.

The question is, will the GOP fight her nomination or cave in front of this feel good story of the “first Hispanic woman to sit on the Supreme Court”?

Tax evasion is a plus for potential nominees in the view of most Democrats.

On the plus side, if Obama keeps nominating the same kind of people then the back taxes they're forced to pay may almost cover the cost of his health care plans.

0bozo could have done a lot worse, imho.

Fox Business Channel just mentioned an opinion recently posted on a legal site, describing Sotomayor as having pro-corporate tendencies.

She’s originally a Bush-41 appointee.

Early announcement of a controversial selection...What is going on behind the scenes in other arenas that Zer0 needs to use this.

Every news channel is now locked on this story.

Watch the smoke and mirrors...something else bad is afoot!

Here’s what you’ll hear the next several days to provide cover for her leftwing record:

A Bush 41 appointment.

A Bush 41 appointment.

A Bush 41 appointment.

A Bush 41 appointment.

A Bush 41 appointment.

THe dems have the WH and the ability to appoint anyone they please.

Fighting it is futile in my opinion. Why would they do it?
